I lost my job, my kids have measles, and gas is six dollars a gallon. But at least now they’re not tearing down a statue of a Confederate general that I’ve never heard of in a city that I’ve never been to.

Yeah, I’m relatively certain the rangers can build a decent and cheap bottom six with what they already have on the roster. It’s more about the top line, what a healthy JT gives them, etc
We have to get excited about the small stuff don’t we?
Tye Kartye has big Dryden Hunt vibes (a good thing)
If just discovering it means started watching Premier League games in 2005 on Fox Soccer Channel then yes, you totally nailed it my guy
Has never been a debate worth engaging in. You either like MLS (I very much do) or you don’t, regardless of how it theoretically stacks up to European leagues.
THEEEEEEEEEE MLS!
It is but it’s pretty easy to substitute “abandon this sinking ship” for “endure a potentially lengthy rebuild”. My point is more about word choice and framing as a mechanism of reporting on the state of the team.
One way is taking shots. The other way is reporting reality.
It’s still his job to report and analyze what’s going on and this approach doesn’t add any value to his reporting.
Jets beat writers do a much more effective job covering a team that has been much worse for much, much longer.
Yeah, Vince’s tone smacks of a guy who thinks he deserves the same level of respect, but hasn’t gotten it. And him taking it out on the team in his work is fine but it doesn’t make his reporting (which is mediocre, imo) better.
Just that Larry was on it early. There’s nothing imminent with Tkachuk but there’s been a lot of post-Olympics noise.
I do think the Brady Tkachuk thing is more real than anyone would like to admit. Larry seemed to have real intel there, not only on the Rangers’ interest but that he was never a lock to stay in Ottawa.
It is but I also feel like Vince hates Drury in a way that affects his reporting.
Yeah I mean I guess my point is that, at this point we all know drury has fucked this up massively. The main discussion points now should be, what can they do to fix it? There are paths forward but often these articles take on the tone of “this is hopeless and the Rangers should fold”
That’s fair but his articles are at a point where the tone is “the Rangers might as well fold because they have no chance at fixing this” which isn’t particularly helpful or insightful reporting.
I think you can be very critical without the tone being that the team is so hopeless that it may as well not exist, because that’s been how every single one of his articles has read for the last 3 months.
Text from an article in The Athletic referring to the Rangers as a “sinking ship”.
I’m all for criticizing the Rangers but I can’t remember the last time a beat writer (in this case, Vince Mercogliano) referred to the team they were covering as a “sinking ship”. Maybe Frank Isola before MSG banned him?
Seems excessively harsh. Also, they’re in last. The ship has sunk.
Still would like a smart, low cost veteran signing, but yeah, the pipeline on defense isn’t a total trainwreck.
You can at least see this being a functional, competitive team especially if they solidify the defense, but they basically need an entire 2nd pair (imo).
Gav-Fox
?-?
Robertson-Borgen
Ideally 2RD is Morrow but I’d pencil him in as 7D right now.
Keep Lafrenière, play him 22 minutes a night with Mika Zibanejad and Gabe Perreault, Profit.
So are all the dudes named Anthony and Sal in Bay Ridge cheering for Italy in the WBC the same way they root for Italy in the World Cup?
I think this is less of an issue this year. The culture has already been toxic for a couple of years now. Might as well lose as long as younger guys continue to get minutes.
Next year they need to be competitive for 82 games. Doesn’t mean playoffs or contention, but they can’t be in last in Jan.
Perreault’s hockey sense alone will take him a long way. He fades to the back post here on the Trocheck shot - not something every forward would do in this situation.
If he really figures out the physical part (and he’s already made progress in that area) he could be a really good one.
That Tuch contract gonna hit like pure, uncut meth on July 1
Would be a very good second line. Problem is we don’t have a top line lol
The Team USA buddy-buddy groupthink nonsense from drury down is a not insignificant contributor to this team’s downfall.
Assuming a Democrat ever holds office again, there need to be very public hearings and trials at all levels of the system that perpetrated these atrocities. There is no “let’s move on and focus on healing”
I think it’s been pretty widely understood that Pittsburgh was never gonna trade Guentzel to the Rangers, no? And my understanding is that it was kakko/Cuylle that they were reluctant to include?
Either way there’s no sense in relitigating that deadline.
This would require actual creativity
I’m good with any and all waiver claims by the Rangers, there’s no harm in trying those as dart throws. Kartye isn’t a complete trainwreck, but Vincent Iorio, my goodness does he stink. Just zero clue how to handle the physical aspect of the modern game which, at his size, is almost inexplicable.
