Numerous small orchid-like flowers on slender spikes.
This species occurs across a wide geographic range, including tropical and Southern Africa, Madagascar, Mexico, and other Latin American countries. Oddly enough, two other bladderwort species, U. pubescens and U. simulans, occupy similar distributions.
White and purple flower with a yellow spot in the center of the lower lip.
Last #UtriculariaTuesday, I shared pics of Utricularia livida βMerrie Heart,β a cultivar from Mexico. Here is another clone of U. livida (most likely from Central or Southern Africa).

A fully opened pitcher displays its waxy inner surface. The pitcher lid is dried and papery at the tip.
A mottled red pitcher plant trap with a flattened, green peristome dangles from the end of a short tendril.
#Nepenthes mirabilis, a member of the #Nepenthaceae sometimes referred to as the common swamp pitcher-plant, is the most widespread species in the genus. This plant was sold to me as Nepenthes mirabilis βRedβ. It features a mottled red pitcher body.

A ruffled purple and white flower viewed from above.
The flowers on each spike last for several weeks, and it blooms almost constantly if it receives enough light. Iβll share pics of my other U. livida specimen next Tuesday.

Purple and white orchid-like flower on a slender, green spike. The edge of the lower lip is slightly ruffled.
Anyone else growing bladderworts? For this #UtriculariaTuesday, meet Utricularia βMerrie Heart,β a cultivar of U. livida from Mexico. This plant spreads vigorously, escaping through the drainage holes at the bottom of its pot.

If ICE attempts to enter the premises, ask to see the judicial warrant.
A harry pitcher with prominent wings running down its front and a broad, yellow-and-red-striped peristome. The pitcher body blushes orangish-pink in places exposed to the greatest amount of light. The bottom of the lid glistens with nectar.

Sorting out fur from stripe, wing vein position, and antennal segments is always tricky; but trying to be accurate matters

Hazel Corylus avellana leaves catkins, and nuts botanical illustration
This is the #Hazel #Corylus avellana. It's often a compositional challenge showing all stages of a plant in one #botanicalillustration; flowers, fruit and sometimes autumn leaf colour too - but having drooping catkins, & twigs you can rearrange helps

Illustration of Zygopetalum clayii orchids featuring five flowers with dark purple petals marked by lighter green edges and central veins, and broad, pleated lavender lips. The plant has elongated, lance-shaped green leaves emerging from bulb-like pseudobulbs at the base. The flowers are arranged on tall, slender green stems with some brown tips, depicted on a neutral background typical of 19th-century botanical art.

The march started at Whittier Park, a few blocks from where Alex Pretti was killed, and ended at the scene of the shooting on Nicollet Avenue. Organizers said they wanted to honor and remember Pretti, and the community brought together in the wake of his death.
