Started my part 2 reread in the process of maybe possibly making an essay. The very first scene of denji in part 2 is him letting a family and kid die to kill the Cockroach Devil and save a cat. And if you remember it's the brother of the guy from the Fire Devil fight.

“I wanna be Chainsaw Man” is the running theme of both parts. I want to be the protagonist. Denji is mad that Reze and Katana Man and Makima want his chainsaw heart, but he wants it to. But it’s constantly cracking. Being a hero as a vulnerable boy means being turned into a weapon (like Yoru wanted)
I don’t know if part 2 is good. But I’ve spent all day thinking about it. The War Devil arc feels like a shonen ending with a memory leak, and the penultimate chapter is the program crashing. It refuses to even let you be a voyeur to the “final battle”, ending it off screen.

It’s bad, but it’s not stupid or unreflective, but it’s unsatisfying and poorly paced, but that’s part of the point, but it’s missing key character moments with Asa and the rest of the main cast. It’s meaningful to me I think. I’m gonna have sit and think for a long while
I’m fascinated by the decisions, so many good and so many bad. An exceptionally flawed work with overwhelming symbolism and people who can’t solve everything on their own. Who make terrible terrible choices and who are victims of things they can’t stop. But they keep dreaming
Maybe I’m biased maybe I’m finding something in nothing, and while I don’t love part 2 especially because I wish there was much more focus on Asa, as it stands? I want to engage with it as it is. I feel like so many people don’t treat fiction as fiction, and it really bugs me
