Yes! Letβs uncover the motivation behind the desire to use that phrase. And is it from a place of authenticity? Such a great follow up to spark thought in them.
"We're like a family here."
Sounds nice, right? But it's often a red flag.
Here's what it can really mean:
- Unpaid overtime becomes "pitching in."
- PTO guilt trips replace real rest.
- Boundaries blur because "family comes first."
Work isn't family. It's work.
I 100% agree! I had to learn the hard way what βweβre like a familyβ meant in corporate jargon and now caution Leaders against using that phrase. Instead, using phrases such as βWe encourage a collaborative environmentβ would be a better choice of words IF the org indeed encourages such.

By asking yourself these two questions, you create a foundation for intentional, authentic, and effective leadership, significantly impacting your ability to inspire and lead others.
π New front line leaders should ask themselves two questions:
1)What kind of leader do I want to be?
2)Who am I as an individual?

Failing to develop team members with natural leadership and business acumen, instead using them solely for delegation, makes you an opportunist and risks burnout. Decide whether to be a manager who exploits or a leader who nurtures potential and drives sustainable success. #leadership #IOPsych
Micromanaging sends the wrong message to your team π
It can make them feel like:
πYou donβt believe in their capabilities
πYou doubt their time and task management skills
πYou trust your own methods more than their innovation
