Jaeger POV: A month. That’s how long it had been since the Scions of the Seventh Dawn had “disbanded” and gone their separate ways. Since he’d seen her face. Old Sharlayan was quiet now, late into the night as it was. Jaeger was reclined atop one of the white, solid stone railings lining one of the pathways leading down to Scholar’s Harbor, overlooking the ocean. The moon was full and bright tonight, and he couldn’t help his drifting thoughts as he gazed upon it. He had heard nothing from Alisaie since she and Alphinaud had gone to Garlemald to help the nation rebuild. No linkpearl call, not even a letter. But he had felt the distance between them even before she was physically gone. Something in their relationship had shifted. He couldn’t put his finger on when or why, only that it was after their return from Ultima Thule. They had all returned to the Rising Stones shortly afterwards while he was recovering from near death at the hands of Zenos, feeling the peace and quiet of “home” would be better for them all. Jaeger had been forced to remain on bedrest for weeks, much to his dismay. The first few days, Alisaie would visit him every day. And then it became every few days, and for much shorter periods. She seemed…quieter. As if her mind were elsewhere. Any time he asked about it, she would always say everything was fine. Had he done something to upset her? Was she only visiting him out of pity? The thought made him sick with anxiety. But then again, anxiety seemed his constant companion these days. He missed her. He hated her absence. He especially hated where she had gone. Visiting was always an option, but the Garleans hated him. This didn’t bother him, for the feeling was mutual; however, he didn’t want to make things harder for the twins.

Jaeger POV cont.: Jaeger sighed. He’d spent the last month traveling back to the past investigating Pandaemonium with Themis, hunting down rogue blasphemies leftover from the Final Days, and even running errands at the Studium. But things were quiet now, and he had more time to think than he wanted. His focus returned to the moon once again. He stretched his arm forward slowly, as if he could reach out and touch it, and wondered if Alisaie could see it from where she was that moment. He wondered what she was doing…if she thought of him too. If she missed him as much as he missed her. Jaeger pressed his palms into his cheeks and groaned. He was a mess. Perhaps it was time to return to the Rising Stones. Maybe Tataru had news or some quest or another for him to undertake. Anything to distract him from his own traitorous heart and mind.

Alisaie POV: It had been a month since she’d seen his stupid face. His stupid, oblivious, annoying face that made her stomach burst into butterflies every time she saw it. Or, it *had*. Now the thought of it just made her heart ache. Alisaie leaned her shoulder against a tree, her arms folded, in the frozen heart of Camp Broken Glass. She stared up at the moon, deep in thought. She wanted to blame Jaeger for how she felt. But she only had herself to blame, really. Jaeger was her best friend, and she should have left it at that. But she'd had to be hopeful, just for a moment, that he felt the same way she did. That he loved her too. I mean, it’s not like she had told him or anything….but she had sworn that, in the moments before he had sent her and the others back to the Ragnarok so that he could fight the Endsinger alone in some attempt at noble self-sacrifice (which she was STILL pissed about by the way), he had spoken those three little words. She hadn’t exactly *heard* him over the noise, but she had read his lips. She apparently wasn’t as versed in lip-reading as she thought she was, for when she later asked him what he had said, there was no mention of “I love you.” She hadn’t realized just how much the absence of that admission would break her heart. She had started distancing herself from him after that. She obviously still cared for him and wanted to make sure he wasn’t alone during his recovery, but she couldn’t stay around him for very long. She needed time to get over him, which made her feel even worse, knowing that she couldn’t be the friend that he needed then. Her and Alphinaud’s trip to Garlemald was decided before the conversation that broke her heart, but afterwards she was more determined and sure of their decision than before. Surely…surely crossing the star and helping a nation rebuild would give her the time she needed away from Jaeger to help her heart mend. So why a month later did it still feel just as painful as it did the day she left?

Alisaie POV cont.: Was it the fact that she had heard nothing from him in the last month? He was probably having fun on some adventure without her, she thought bitterly. It felt ridiculous that she should want space from him, but also be mad that he hadn't contacted her at the same time. She sighed as the moon drifted higher, realizing that it was probably time she get to sleep. Another hard day of work awaited her tomorrow. But she allowed herself a moment for her frustrations to soften. Maybe Jaeger was out there somewhere, also staring at the moon. And maybe, just maybe, he missed her too.

Jaeger's chest swelled with pride and adoration at his best friend. She had done it; Ga Bu was returned and the tempering gone, thanks to Alisaie's passion and persistence. And now, countless others would be saved. Of course, Raha and everyone at the Ironworks played a part as well, but without Alisaie...would anyone else have been so determined to find a cure? Chatter and discussion carried on behind them, but it was merely noise to Jaeger. It all kind of went over his head anyway. In that moment, he only had eyes for Alisaie. Reigning in his emotions for this amazing woman was proving more difficult with every passing day, but he would allow himself this moment while everyone else was pre-occupied. He just needed to get it together before they planned their next steps. (Alisaie is patting Ga Bu on the head in the foreground, while Jaeger watches them. He is beaming with adoration.
