Hi there, I would like to talk about paywalls
Today I had a rather large article drop in Slate and there was a soft paywall. A lot of people commented upset about that paywall
Let's talk about:
a) how to get around paywalls
b) why you shouldn't be mad about them
I'd love to see a video of you(on your usual trail / route) to get a better sense of what it's like for you out there π
Can you share more about the appeal?
Iβd love to be convinced to try it sometime π
Lmao

Tony can you at least not place them in the *middle* of a bullet point list? π
And yes, the location in the middle of the post is quite intrusive.
And also it advertises access to something I myself am not paywalling.
It implies Iβm part of a program that I did not take part in.
I write and share freely. Others may paywall, but I donβt.
So please leave me out of it β€οΈ
It would make sense to me if the ad appeared on a paywalled post. Or even a paywalled post that was shared with a gift link. But my articles are free, and while they may not directly bring in revenue to Medium, they do bring people to the website.
A screenshot of my free, unpaywalled Medium article with a Medium ad in the middle βthat I did *not* put thereβ with the title βAccess to all of it.β even though all my articles are free.
@coachtony.bsky.social I say this with love: is there any chance you can stop enshittifying my free articles for everyone? β€οΈ
PS. Iβve been using Medium since 2008, this is the first time Iβm considering hosting my own blog π«
