This is also really important—over 40% of the 2025 budget cuts at the IRCC are related to asylum-seeker healthcare! It's not good!

This is important reading for those interested in Canadian immigration policy:
- Big cuts to housing support for asylum-seekers (to be paid by municipalities, or many more people will be homeless)
- Big cuts to medical care for asylum-seekers (to be paid by asylum-seekers)
- Much more
It has been an incredibly long few weeks, so anyways it's 1 am and when I see "James Talarico" I instead read "Tommy Tallarico"
Angine de Poitrine making it on "Tout le monde en parle" and announced as a Montréal Jazz Fest free show this summer, big 48hrs for weird (complimentary) Québecois music.

reminded of my most dad coded political opinion which is that we need a universal Naps and Lil Snacks For All program
(also yes, absolutely, being offline has been good)
I have realized that my better time on BlueSky is because of aggressively organizing and coordinating feeds (esp emphasizing feeds w/mutuals).
Anyone do autoethnography-theorizing-etc on tricky stuff, and open to chat about it a little? Learning again that ATIP/FOIA/FOIing oneself leads to surprises.
(Nothing bad—arguably good—just needing to talk it out with someone who's also thought about this, as I think about writing about it.)
No idea who is making this much—everyone I know in journalism is struggling!—and also meanwhile...
I do need to come up with a more proper 'program', but it's been ~3x/week and I'm generally trying to do full-body each session (vs something like PPL).
I am definitely really improving re long COVID from a year or two ago (not where I used to be, but getting there), but I still find that lifting over cardio is something I have more capacity for. I also got a tracking app—nice to see weights go up—that is a bit social, which I really enjoy.
I didn't realize you were in Europe!
I am a solid hater of group exercise (I love dancing with friends and team sports, but not exercising in a group otherwise), BUT I have been lifting with a pal. I was doing small cardio + lifting machines, but am building out more towards dumbbells/barbell now.
Is anyone else experiencing debilitating amounts of dread?
Truly incredible to shut down a bunch of renewable energy stuff and then start a war that launches oil prices through the roof
won't see that in spring training
(would love to enthuse about lifting things with you, as you'd like!)
Sending your family so many thoughts of care.
screenshot of text::"The United Nations instituted International Women’s Day (IWD) in 1975—or so the official story runs. Few remember not only that the origins of March 8 lie in the history of the international workers’ movement, but that it was the socialist movement in the United States that first launched the idea of a day devoted to women’s rights centered on working-class women. In fact, the Socialist Party USA first established a day of education and action around women’s rights called “Woman’s Day” in 1908, and the following year U.S. socialists held demonstrations in several cities to demand women’s suffrage. In 1910, German socialist Clara Zetkin proposed the transformation of the U.S. Woman’s Day into an international day of action—International Working Women’s Day—which, in 1914, started being celebrated on March 8. Three years later, on March 8, 1917, Russian women workers took to the streets in St. Petersburg, organizing a strike to demand bread and peace. It was the beginning of the Russian Revolution."
a useful explainer of International Women's Day by Cinzia Arruzza
I have read Liftoff! And forgot you lifted!!
I was a bit ahead (in some ways) of the intended audience, and also tend to modify a couple things because of my body, so I'm using notes from that alongside other goals and support from a friend.
Going to bring in barbell bench + row soon!
Also it's not just the levels plan, it's the govt deliberately saying they only want less population growth. It's not a surprise.
It's really frustrating to have researchers repeatedly say "rental and housing costs are complicated, and going up *most* because of financialization"...
...but the national media interviews a bank employee who parrots the line about migrants being the issue.
On this International Women's Day, a reminder that intimate-partner violence has tripled in Quebec over the past decade, and the CAQ refuses to allocate the funds needed for adequate shelter space.
This is a systemic failure.

I mean beyond all of the loathsome obvious shit about allllll of this, the director of the fucking INSIDE fucking OUT movies saying “We’re making a movie, not hundreds of millions of dollars of therapy" is a level of self-unawareness I can only marvel at
This piece from a few years ago came up in a few conversations I've had recently about a very different piece of media—and more talking about sexuality, as well as fitness/fascism—but I've been ruminating on it re gender/politics/aesthetics (like with Snyder).

When the normalization of betting on everything and the constant dehumanization of immigrants collide
Lifting has been nice for my mental health, making friends, and moving the world's heaviest microwave into a local arts space.
(I know I've posted this on another platform, too, I just think it's cool to go from 45 -> 90 in less than a month, even while things uh get worse)
So much global and close to me is truly quite bad, but today I did a 90lb deadlift set smooth as you'd like—when just over three weeks ago I hadn't lifted a bar! ever!—and it's nice to get small wins when big wins feel impossible.
If not benching for community benefit, then why benching?
