Happy book birthday to @loreegriffinburns.bsky.social and EXTREME BIRD WATCHING: MEASURING CHANGE ON A GALAPAGOS ISLAND! This is the second book in Loree's amazing Discovery Chronicles STEM chapter book series with @candlewickpress.bsky.social! bookshop.org/p/books/extr...
Psst! I am opening up to unagented children's book submissions *just for the month of October*! This is an exciting experiment. The email to send submissions to is OpenOctober@Sourcebooks.com. You can find out about what I'm looking for at www.manuscriptwishlist.com/mswl-post/me...
Shout out to @eliotschrefer.bsky.social for the recommendation.
The cover of the book PERMISSION: THE NEW MEMOIRIST AND THE COURAGE TO CREATE, by Elissa Altman, which is mostly white and features a birdcage with fruiting branches inside. (And also a blurb from Anne Lamott: "Marvelous, passionate, and charming."
Of all the genres I write, memoir is the one that stymies the most. Elissa Altman's PERMISSION helped me to see more clearly that part (or all?) of that struggle is a hesitancy about permission. Great read for the reluctant memoirist.

If thereβs an author you appreciate, one of the simplest, most helpful, least expensive things you can do for them is ask your public library to add that authorβs newest book to their collection.
Many library websites have a form for that. So give it a try, and make an authorβs day!
Love this! Super excited that there is a Vox edition of One Long Line. (And I got to narrate!)
I really admire the way he uses voice. Reminiscent of THE MONA LISA VANISHES, and wildly engaging!
The cover of the book A WORLD WITHOUT SUMMER: A VOLCANO ERUPTS, A CREATURE AWAKENS, AND THE SUN GOES OUT, written by Nicholas Day, featuring art by Yas Imamura. Said cover is deep blue with several illustration insets, including an erupting volcano, Mary Shelley, and Frankenstein.
And new to my Currently Reading tab, this new MG page-turner from Nicholas Day:
Currently agonizing over what titles to include on my Storygraph Favorites tab! There's only room for five selections, and I've used four of them ...
Lulu Miller's WHY FISH DON'T EXIST
Robin Wall Kimmerer's BRAIDING SWEETGRASS
Tricia Hersey's REST IS RESISTANCE
Brian Doyle's ONE LONG RIVER OF SONG
Just finished my transition from Goodreads to @thestorygraph.com. Moving a long reading history was much easier than expected ... and it felt great to delete a little more bezos from my life.
Happy reading, Stacy!
Thank YOU, Cindy, for reading and sharing! #bookposse #kidlit #nonfiction
Grateful to @adkctr4writing.bsky.social for some time and space to focus my writing this fall ...

The cover of the book One Long Line: Marching Caterpillars and the Scientists Who Followed Them, written by Loree Griffin Burns, illustrated by Jamie Green, featuring a cone-laden pine tree branch in a pot with a single-file line of green and gold caterpillars marching down the branch, out of the pot, and into the world.
Want to get caught up on the entire series? Find the first book, One Long Line, in hardcover wherever you buy books ... and you'll be able to get the softcover version next month!
The cover of Extreme Birdwatching: Measuring Change on a Galapagos Island, by Loree Griffin Burns, illustrated by Jamie Green, features Drs. Rosemary and Peter Grant at work on Daphne Major, an uninhabited island in the Galapagos. Also seen are illustrations of the finches they studied and the couple's young daughters, who often accompanied them to the island.
COVER REVEAL! I can hardly wait to share Extreme Birdwatching--book 2 in the Discovery Chronicles series. Written by me, illustrated by Jamie Green, and published by the team at MITKids and @candlewickpress.bsky.social, it's available for pre-order today and will be published on March 3, 2026. π¬
Thrilled to have an essay in the latest issue of The Maine Review. It's a love letter to a chicken that I'll remember forever.
"But the finish or start of a story is often frayed and full of holes, and nothing ever opens or closes where or when we think it does. And so the ashes stayed in the baggie and the dead spruce remained tilted." ~ Barbara Hurd

True story. So productive. And she didn't goof off once. :-)
True confession: it only gets me out of my pajama top. Bc Kate can't see my bottom half!
