Welcome to The War on Cars, @telegraph.co.uk.
@thewaroncars.bsky.social
There are cars parked on the other side and itβs a narrow street but that doesnβt excuse this sort of behaviour. Drivers should be patient and just wait until itβs safe to pass!
Sarahβs video and this piece really say it how it is. Some of the driving & parking in our area is appalling and has become normalised. Our representatives must take action - children deserve to be protected. #SafeStreetsNow!

I really donβt know - motonormativity?
No more Dirty Business ! The public, MPs and Environmental Groups have said NO to 14 years of illegal Thames Water sewage pollution. Email Ofwat now, so that they can't ignore us @weownit.org.uk weownit.org.uk/act-now/emai...
Dirty Business on C4 was absolutely brilliant and fucking terrifying. Itβs imperative we re-nationalise our water companies otherwise the greedy bastards will kill us all.

Too many women are missing out on the benefits cycling brings to our health, our independence and our pockets β as well as access to education, work opportunities and nature β¨
We need to empower women and girls to see themselves as cyclists πͺ

It's time to tackle the cycling #GenderGap βοΈ
On #InternationalWomensDay we want to raise awareness of the barriers that stop women getting on bikes.
Our upcoming #WalkingCyclingIndex for Scotland reveals the number of women cycling in our cities is still half that of men π΄ββοΈ
Yes, on the positive, Bβham has made improvements and the Transport Plan is ambitious. @betterstreetsforbirmingham.org has highlighted quick wins like the upgrading of crossings to cut wait times. Still loads of work to do, but progress is happening!

Yes - some not very well researched points.
@greenpeacebrum.bsky.social π
Birmingham is one of the least walkable cities in the UK.
Scrapping the next phase of the Kings Heath/Moseley LTN is a blow to safer streets and active travel - we need more ambition, not less:

On a straight 40 limit road too..
We're pleased to be featured in this Commons Library research briefing on #WoodBurning.
The briefing sets out the #Health effects of burning, the issues local authorities have enforcing Smoke Control Areas, and the proposals in the current consultation to reduce emissions from burning.
Image shows Sian Berry stood to the left of campaigner Rosamund Adoo-Kissi-Debrah, and surrounded by a group of clean air campaigners. All of them are smiling and holding a copy of Ella's Law - the Clean Air (Human Rights Bill).
Image shows Rosamund Adoo-Kiss-Debrah sat next to Sian with a copy of Ella's Law on the table in front of them. They are both reading the Bill that is named in memory of Rosamund's daughter Ella who died aged nine due to exposure to air pollution.
Ellaβs Law has been published π
No child should have the growth of their lungs stunted because of dirty air where they live and play, yet this is the reality of air pollution in England. Ellaβs Law would change this.
My thanks to Rosamund and all the hard-working campaigners demanding change.
Itβs great youβre willing to start conversations about important issues like that. Small discussions can make a big difference in raising awareness and creating positive change π±π

Bit late to posting day 4.
It's not always easy to talk about, but yesterday I had a conversation with another parent about wood burning, air pollution, asthma rates, cargo bikes, most journeys under 5km, car clubs, school streets, idling & dangerous driver behaviour... Lots to discuss & worth it!
Just submitted my response to the wood burning consultation. I had no warnings when I burned wood in wood burners and fire pits, putting my children and neighbours at risk - now I know the harm.
Itβs time to end unnecessary wood burning. Speak up!

Day 7 - we made it! π
This week has resulted in some brilliant local awareness-raising about #AirPollution by our #CleanAirCrowd. Every conversation had, flyer distributed, social media post and message shared and sticker put up helps grow the movement for clean air. π
It's flown by!
Air pollution in London and the Southeast is extremely high right now which can harm kids and those with respiratory conditions such as asthma. Staying away from big roads that are extra polluted already (and ideally avoid adding more car or burning pollution). uk-air.defra.gov.uk/forecasting/
Cars really mess with people's brains
The wood-burning industry is gaslighting the public and threatening councils that speak the truth. Wood smoke is toxic, linked to hundreds of illnesses, and non-essential burning must stop. The government needs to put health over industry.
Industry should not be trying to stop councils from communicating the facts.
The health effects of burning are widely known.
Modern stoves are not the answer: some emit MORE tiny particles of soot, carbon and cancer-causing chemicals than older stoves.
Non-essential burning has to stop.
"Straight from the playbook of tobacco".
The Stove Industry Association has been pressuring councils to tone down their public health campaigns, telling them they were exploring options for potential legal action.
This stinks even more than the burning they promote. #WoodBurning #AirPollution
Watch π as drivers mount the pavement where a young mother pushes a baby, 20 metres from a primary school. This is normal in Birmingham. Itβs the kind of behaviour which led to plans for an LTN in this area, which have now been abandoned by the Council after 6 years of development.
