Despite what's presented, not a single target is regarded as unachievable. Economic conditions are expected to improve, and jobs will materialise.

Tenă koe Andy,
I refer to your email dated 13 February 2025, requesting the following under the Official Information Act 1982 (the Act):

"I was wondering about the pre-election promise of 10,000 EV chargers and where we're at?
Could you please let me know how this is progressing as you're always keen to point out that you only deliver what you campaigned on.
I would like to know how many of these have been completed and the projections for 2025 and 2026"

I am aware that as at 31 December 2024, there were 1,378 public EV charge points in New Zealand, with another 714 in the pipeline for installation. No yearly targets for installation have been set for the years between now and 2030. This is because decisions on the number of installations that occur in each year will be led by the private sector.

To achieve the 10,000 charge point target, Cabinet agreed the Supercharging EV Infrastructure work programme on 15 April 2024 [CAB-24-MIN-0123 refers]. The work programme includes updating the co-investment model and actions to reduce the regulatory barriers inhibiting a rapid rollout of charging infrastructure.

It was always a lie, they had no intention of ever following through on the bullshit promise (which is still on their website www.national.org.nz/news/nationa...)

The questions I got about EVs.. before the ride

Can it go up hills
Can it get to Diamond harbor (25km away)
Takes a week to charge right?

The environmental impact of fossil fuel use is terrible, the environmental impact of fossil fuel wars is equally horrific

Renewables don't burn, don't need transporting around the world in ships powered by fossil fuels and allow the planet to live

If this war doesn't provoke change, we're doomed

They are not free but they will cover their own cost in electricity in 6-8 years, and last 20-30 years

So they will pay for themselves 2/3x , who cares what they are worth in 30 years time
