wtf this is upsetting

have u seen/read The Stand? its also about an apocalypse/virus. A character in it has a tic where he keeps spelling/repeating "M O O N - that spells moon" & we realize he does it to shelter his mind from the horrors of society. Samson's the opposite, its a sign that he's waking up, no longer afraid

i love that Samson and Jimmy we're probs the same age when the virus hit, and both were deeply affected by it. And both met Kelson and felt heard by him, but turns out Jimmy was the one that was just too far gone (or too little time left) from saving. Kelson's such a great role model

and jim's statement at the end sums it up. the world got fascism as a result of lost men. but BT offers hope that having proper role models or father figures and showing them love and art instead of shunning them from society can make them snap out of it. was never a zombie movie, get over it

it blows my mind people watched 28 days later and still cant come to that conclusion. it took those men 28 days before luring women to be sex slaves, yet people here thinking it was a fun zombie movie. huh

21.02.2026 19:06 πŸ‘ 1 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 1 πŸ“Œ 0

but the virus was made by chimps watching war.. its a mirror to the horrors of society. both jimmy and samson were deeply affected the virus, and both felt heard by Kelson. the movie is a statement on self proclaimed "alpha" men leading us into destruction and the need for healthy male role models

i got lucky, my first exposure to linux has been on a framework laptop so there is dedicated linux support for its hardware. but yea, tinkering on other older machines has been quite a learning experience

"just read the arch wiki it will explain everything!" like wtf where do i even start..

part of the open source/linux community feels cyberpunk to me; people salvaging software and making something new, amazing, and private, without monetary greed. but definitely comes with other costs

19.02.2026 19:36 πŸ‘ 1 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 1 πŸ“Œ 0

lol im so sorry if im contributing to the confusion. i think we're all confused, there's just so much to know

19.02.2026 18:30 πŸ‘ 2 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 1 πŸ“Œ 0

edit - you could also just try cachyos with xfce during install instead of what i think is kde shown here?

19.02.2026 18:17 πŸ‘ 0 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 0 πŸ“Œ 0

my two cents and i am not an expert at all.. maybe try something that ships with xfce. xfce is old, but fast and uses x11 instead of newer wayland for window management. on old hardware that's what i would think first.

19.02.2026 18:15 πŸ‘ 1 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 2 πŸ“Œ 0

totally agree and i would add how far the user wants to go. ive revived what i thought was a completely dead 2010 macbook pro with Void and couldn't believe it. but i can't imagine recommending Void to a newb. imagine someone that doesn't even know what github is trying to use void or arch πŸ™ˆ

19.02.2026 18:11 πŸ‘ 2 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 0 πŸ“Œ 0

recommending arch to newbies is a braindead take. ive found pop os to be user friendly. and i mostly see people recommend mint as the user friendly distro. i started with ubuntu and did not like it - are you running into issues?

love this. im gonna use this later today, nice work

if it helps,28 days/years later is my favorite series and i wish Nia DaCosta could direct the last one. Maybe it was just the writing that was different in bone temple and not DaCosta, but whatever they did, i want THAT

i would only trust something that i host myself. and if discord is playing by the rules, great, but it's too juicy for companies like palantir to pass up. yes, big brother has had our data for decades now, but we cant let them get even more. im happy people question this, ring cams, alexas, etc

14.02.2026 17:27 πŸ‘ 0 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 0 πŸ“Œ 0

"trust me bro, i use linux" πŸ™ˆ

"we totally delete your data as soon as we verify it" while the database just sets a flag and counts it as "deleting" the record. people are skeptical, you can't blame them

13.02.2026 22:17 πŸ‘ 1 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 1 πŸ“Œ 0

i totally get that but it's really not as crazy as people suggest. i think there's a misconception that you need to like build everything from scratch and nothing will work like anything you're used to in mac/windows. that mentality crushes people from ever trying in the first place

12.02.2026 03:32 πŸ‘ 1 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 0 πŸ“Œ 0

it's really not bad, you can learn as little or as much as you want. tons of simple to use distros, id start with pop os personally

my white conservative relatives and friends are so close to getting it - we all feel we are being cheated - but the right has hijacked their religion, and ultimately their thoughts. they think it's left vs right when it's down vs up. we can chip away and help them snap out of it

look up @biancagraulau.bsky.social on youtube and support her work, it's so important, even outside of PR

#badbunny #pr #superbowl

Benito is a threat b/c he makes art so alluring and enjoyable you want to understand everything about it and then you end up learning about sugar and slavery and colonialism and the TaΓnos and Hawaii and then you probably have some thoughts of your own, and that's why art is powerful and dangerous

09.02.2026 01:38 πŸ‘ 20649 πŸ” 5268 πŸ’¬ 108 πŸ“Œ 179

do it. learning linux isn't bad at all, it just depends on how deep you wanna go. you could install ubuntu or mint and use it just like windows or mac without needing to learn much at all. or if you wanna learn more, there are plenty of minimal distros that will force you to learn/read
