Wire mesh hand shaped installation with craft charms and notes from the community
Showing off my crochet charm on the installation
Tying my cute-as-a-button flower and cord manager crochet creation to the community installation
An annual tradition to experience the joy of handmade at A Hundred Hands collective in Bangalore, celebrating their 15th year. I added my little crochet charm to their installation for amateur crafters

A group of illustrated people standing in a group singing together. "Together our voices are strong."
Activism is like a choir. Together we can hold a note much longer than any single person because when someone needs a break, the others keep singing. It's ok to take a break and focus on self care when you need it! We'll still be here, singing our collective song to #EndTB

a pair of red scissors with googly eyes is flying through the air
Alt: a pair of red scissors with googly eyes is flying through the air
I love collecting different scissors, tweezers, needles. Love knives too, probly why I was drawn to surgery as my initial choice for training... life had many interesting twists and turns & I've now arrived at interventional pulmonologist, where I still get to use needles and knives often enough.

A pair of stainless steel scissors with an angulation in the shaft and a curve in the cutting blades- like a cross between a Tilley's and a Metzenbaum.
I'm always struck by the similarities between sewing and surgery. These 'surgical'-appearing scissors are actually for embroidery. Traditional gender imbalance has likely hampered a productive exchange of ideas that could enhance *both* specialties. π€

Trump rescinds guidance protecting women in need of emergency abortions
Abortion rights supporters say scaling back Biden officialsβ Emtala guidance will endanger pregnant patientsβ lives
Behind closed doors, Donald Trump just eliminated the rule that forced hospitals to save pregnant womenβs lives.
The man who promised to βprotect women whether they like it or notβ just showed heβs fine letting them die. This isnβt policy, itβs a warning β and we canβt afford to look away.

The roots of Banu Mushtaqβs literary rebellion
LITERATURE NEEDS TO justify its existence from time to time. This is my strong belief, and for years I went in search of some proof of life in Kannada literatur
"Banu Mushtaqβs is a patchwork language, her stories penned in a frank, casual combination of Kannada, Urdu and Dhakni. In her translation, Deepa Bhasthi has gone to lengths to preserve this mix."

I'm sitting here watching leaders, with all the privilege in the world, still not brave enough to speak up about Gaza, Sudan, or Myanmar. And I'm seething with rage thinking of all the times similarly privileged people ask the oppressed WHY DIDN'T YOU SAY SOMETHING AT THE TIME? π‘

The plural of anecdote is misinformation.
Problems with anecdotal medical evidence:
- Regression to mean
- Self-limiting illnesses
- Multiple treatments
- Reporting bias
- Confirmation bias
- Vague outcome measures
- Placebo
- Memory fallibility

Escape into Nature
Β
There are times when it all gets too much
and I have to switch off my phone and the radio
and my brain, and escape outside.
Β
I say good afternoon to next doorβs dog.
Have you seen the latest about the government, he barks,
you couldnβt make it up. I offer a weak smile
and make my excuses before walking on past the pub,
whose sign creaks in protest
against the steep rise in the cost of living.
Β
From the tall branches of a tree, a seminar
is in progress: a squirrel sets out his ideas
about how to alleviate the refugee crisis,
while a chaffinch flaps his wings angrily.
It all gets too much for one leaf,
who hurls itself down, remembering Trump.
Β
I feel the eyes of a murderous-looking crow upon me,
annoyed no doubt about global warming,
so make my way down to the river where β
for a few precious, stolen moments β
I close my eyes and listen to the water
as it laps gently against the bank,
Β
until I hear the slap of wet feet approaching.
Thought Iβd find you here, the duck quacks,
Now what the hell we gonna do about Putin?

We are witnessing the moral moment:
Americans: #HandsOff
Canadians: #ElbowsUp
Standing up for democracy, intellectual freedom, integrity of law, research, science, health care, education, the arts, social security, media.
And on guard for Canadian sovereignty. π¨π¦
