A cell phone-like device with a photo of a cute dark grey French bulldog balancing a heart on his nose is overlaid with text bubbles that read: "Torito loves you!" "Hi Torito! You're adorable!" "And he wants you to pre-order your copy of A Small Light in the Darkness right now! Also, he'd like a treat. Please?" ...Torito has the world's tiniest cameo appearance in this story and somehow has still become a legendary literary dog.
If you'd like to learn more and take advantage of my fun signed paperback preorder package or preorder the ebook from me or other retailers, you can check it out here:

A cell phone-like device has the photo of a park at twilight. Overlaid are three text bubbles. They say: "Please come to the app. I need to explain." "I didn't mean to hurt you." "I'd do anything to show you how sorry I am. Please give me a chance." Under that it reads A Small Like in the Darkness. Coming April 1st 2026. Background is purple with stars and a digitized brain.
"I didnβt recognize the word at first, so I looked it up online and read everything I could find on the subject. Known as the Loneliest Star, it was the kind of reference I immediately related to, and obscure enough that it felt clever. Now to see if the attached message lived up to that opening."
Background: purple with stars and a digitized brain Foreground: a cell phone type device with the cover of A Small Light in the Darkness by Christiane White, featuring two shadowy figures against a purple/blue/pink electric sky. One figure seems to be fading away. Above the book cover is says "Coming April 1st 2026" and above that is the url christianeknight.com
"It took a week to get a response that wasnβt nonsense. Sandwiched between emails with titles like βI know what you really needβ and βLetβs meet up and play!β was a response that just had βFomalhautβ in the subject line."
When they tell you
that if you do not
take off your mask,
that if you do not
start using AI,
that if you do not
get with the times,
that you will be
left behind,
remember:
it is perfectly acceptable
to respond by telling them
that you do not want
to go where theyβre going.
Can confirm. And you can never amass any monetary safety net. And you're always worried that they'll change their minds and take the meager amount you get away again.
At the back of Hornytown Chutzpah there is a tongue-in-cheek glossary of Yiddish terms used in the novella. This is a sampling.
7 days until Hornytown Chutzpah's book birthday
It still tickles me no end that @jenniferhudak.bsky.social read it and said, "That's fantastic! I love it!"
That's right! My glossary has its own blurb π
Here's a sampling.
After revelations that companies like Ring have been selling home security footage to ICE, the most common defense of keeping a camera up seems to be, βBut what if Iβm stalked?β
And as a violence researcher, Iβm just here to state for the record that police do not care about your security footage.

This is why you'll see me either masking and/or using a personal air filter [depending on how safe it feels] at events. The personal air filter isn't foolproof but it helps a lot. I haven't had a cold or crud since I started doing this. [6 years!]
Use the tests! They're important!
I bought this at last year's World Fantasycon. It's a terrific collection that demonstrates a great range in storytelling. Recommended.

Been a bit since I shared that, and I think we could use some stories that spread hope and positivity, even in the darkest of times. And these have soundtracks too, so you can dance to my books if you want.

Can we PLEASE stop telling authors to cut other languages from their books? Iβve talked to multiple authors told to remove the Spanish. π If readers can figure out what a hobbit is or casually drop βvalar morghulis,β they can context clue their way through a real language.
This means nothing to most of my moots, sorry [not sorry, he brings me joy in a very shitty timeline]
Got one of those "Look back at what photos you took/saved on this date over the years" emails from a storage app.
Scrolled down... and ALL of the photos were of Min Yoongi.
Like I know him or something.
Laughed so hard my mom came to see what was up and I had to show her so she could laugh too.
We love seeing this four year recap of the @sauutiverse.bsky.social and including our own novella Songs for the Shadows by Cheryl S. Ntumy, a beautiful reflection on grief and purpose.
We believe the SauΓΊtiverse is the best thing going on in literature and it deserves much more attention. #BookSky

Left: The cover for the Jewish fantasy noir Hornytown Chutzpah includes a hand painted image of Detective Sol Weiss in a tan trench coat facing off against a horde of anthropomorphic water balloons. His super soaker is loaded with Manischewitz red wine. Right are the signing and reading dates for March.

But not this. Not yet.
Not YET.
my hot writing take is that playing with POV is neat and you can do what you want. present tense first! close third! first-person-direct-address with bits of omniscient third! anything is legal if you look good doing it!!
How often do you comment on your followers' posts? That makes a huge difference for me. Posting frequency definitely plays a role, too

A thought-provoking piece that ironically [for me] is quite relevant to my next book coming out and a lot of the things I was contemplating as I wrote it
We could end homelessness and hunger tomorrow if we wanted to.
We could agree that everyone should be fed and housed.
We could admit that being disabled, poor, homeless or unemployed is not a moral failing.
That society would be better off if everyoneβs basic needs were met.
TODAY'S THE DAY - and there's still time to grab your ticket to join us for this virtual deep dive!!
I'm so angry and I don't know what I can do about it. I want your stories. I want the stories of unique, interesting, and underrepresented people. And I want people to tag mine, too.
I went self-pubbed for similar reasons. I'm not burned out yet but I had to adjust my expectations. It's not enough.
