I was showing my new book, Country Baby (ages 0-4), to my stepdaughter and a stranger overheard us talking. He pulled out his phone and ordered it for his son. What a sweet thing to do. #orcabooks
Welcome Madison. Best of luck with your writing. I'm with you. MG is just the best!! I'm reading it and writing it too. I liked The Clackity by Lora Senf. Any MG recommendations for me?
I'm taking part in Storystorm, brainstorming picturebook ideas for the month of January. It's free. It's fun. And the prompts and articles on writing picture books have been so inspiring. taralazar.com/storystorm/
Congratulations Cynthia on your debut picture book. That's wonderful news.
Happy New Year! This morning I caught a bit of the sunrise and then some small blue birds flitted around my head. True story.
The wedge salad is sort of like the self-check out. I still like going through the line and saying hi, how's your day going?
I bought Anne of Green Gables for the beautiful cover art by Canadian artist, Elly MacKay, but of course, I couldn't resist rereading this classic. My favourite quote is when Anne says, "Next to trying and winning, the best thing is trying and failing."
Oh gosh, I wish I had a good answer for this. I wonder if the C stands for conflict, since I know that one of the best ways to quicken the reader's pulse is to get some conflict in there.
I'm reading it too, just for my own joy.
I love Mike Deas' work.
The rare title we could consider for both Motherβs Day AND Halloween! On the podcast @fuse8nkate.bsky.social we dive deep into this nicely twisted tale of a loving/horrifying mama. afuse8production.slj.com/2023/10/16/f...
I am also just finding my way in the blue, blue sky. I am writing MG too. I look forward to being part of the kidlit community.

Congratulations on The Bi Book! Sounds like a wonderful collaboration and a meaningful book.
A delicious stack!
my best piece of publishing advice--no matter where you are in your career--is to always follow up. Most editors/outlets/agents require 2-3 check-ins to get anything done. If someone expressed interest in your work and you never sent a follow-up email due to shyness, that's not a rejection.
Good news today that my board book, FOREST BABY by #Orca@orcabook is going to be reprinted. Yay! Thanks Shantala Robinson for your beautiful illustrations. And to my wonderful editor at Orca, Sarah Howden.
