There's long been a sub-genre of Israeli entertainment dedicated to this. "Shooting and crying" they call it. We have it here in the U.S. too of course. I'm reminded of the old joke by Scottish comedian Frankie Boyle. www.welcometohellworld.com/we-deserve-it/

Inside the Department of War are two wolves:
"We've shut down the Colleges of War because book learnings are woke, gay, and irrelevant to war fighting."
"How come no one told us the Strait is important, there are different kinds of Kurds, Iran is big, and air power historically doesn't win wars?"

Creative arts graduates aren't the problem β they're the subsidy
Johnny Rich argues that low graduate salaries in the arts aren't a sign of poor courses β they're a sign of an industry that profits from exploiting its workforce
'some creative arts graduates donβt appear to earn a significant graduate premium, but the UKβs creative industries are worth Β£125bn a year or, to put it another way, more than Β£1 in every Β£20 in the UK economy β a larger proportion of the nationβs wealth than almost any other country on earth.' 1/3

Pete Hegseth not surprisingly is mismanaging the war, both strategically and financially as some serious misuse of funds have left our military short on munitions. But don't worry, they have plenty of lobster and King Crab legs.

Upholding Liberal Education
Love of the world, not meaningless tests, must be the heart of liberal education.
βThe indispensability of a liberal education is the freedom from being tied to the zeitgeist of oneβs age or situation to love what is true, good, and beautiful, and to be initiated into the world while cultivating a love for it.β www.liberalcurrents.com/upholding-li...

Here's the truth:
Senate Republicans could pay our TSA agents and fund FEMA today. In fact, they could've funded it last week. @democrats.senate.gov brought a simple, clean bill that would fund these essential agencies while we keep negotiating on ICE and CBP.
Republicans blocked it.

No hyperbole, just laying out an unprecedented military, diplomatic and reputational shambles.

Not trying to pile on you, but this is such a common confusion and it is so frustrating, if not infuriating, to see it continually employed in lumping groups of people together.
It makes it easier for "us" to kill "them" if "they" are an undifferentiated mass of humanity who're hostile to "us."

There is also a significant population of Arabic-speaking Arabs in Iran, like there's a significant population of Kurds, Armenians, etc. Ther're still native Christians and Jews and Zoroastrians and others in the Islamic Republic whose history there predates all this. No part of the world is simple.

Kyle Bassinga, 21, was found hanging from a tree in Marietta, GA. Police quickly ruled it a suicide, yet most such acts occur privately, not in public. Why is the mainstream media silent on this? We need answers and transparency.

The question of our time is how do you artistically rebel β and win β against a totally flat cultural landscape? And before my readers, who I assume are all approximately 36 years old and very tired, say, βso what, who cares?β This does matter. I mean, just look around right now lol. You know things are bad when even OpenAI President Greg Brockman is posting stuff, like βTaste is a new core skill.β If people had taste, your company wouldnβt exist, Greg.
But if everything is just attention now, and attention is completely commodified by algorithmic tech platforms, how can you push back against that? Well, I am slowly coming around to a theory on the new cool: You have to essentially pre-deplatform yourself.
Culture right now is determined not by human teams of editors and producers picking and choosing what youth culture gets the spotlight, but, instead, by the unthinking algorithms that power YouTube and TikTok. Which means the only things that have the level of scarcity and danger required to be seen as cool by young people will, slowly, but surely, be whatever is unacceptable on those platforms.
A post so smart I'm almost afraid to share it.

That old saw about how "good times make weak men" is true in the sense that stable times with material abundance create reactionaries who want to destroy the systems that protect them because they're too sheltered and stupid to understand that things can get meaningfully worse.

I don't think a lot of people appreciate how much of their overall lifestyle and relative certainty is backstopped by a steady, boring stability of systems they don't understand or even realize exist.

True decadence looks like people who are three generations removed from the cultural memory of polio refusing to vaccinate their children against deadly communicable diseases because they don't like needles and don't think there will be any consequences, not queer
So much of our present crisis is coddled, ignorant, and short sighted people tearing down the institutions that protect them because they donβt understand that bad things can happen.
