Our work on navigation mechanisms in homing pigeons is out now! Do check out π¦
Huge thanks to @eslr.bsky.social for the travel grant supporting my attendance!
Had a great time meeting and learning from researchers in the fields of cultural evolution, collective intelligence and psychology in the COSMOS summer school held in the beautiful city of Tokyo. Thanks a lot to the amazing duo @watarutoyokawa.bsky.social & @thecharleywu.bsky.social for organizing!
We tested plausible strategies and found that simple strategies with low cognitive demands are sufficient to explain the improvement trend. Get in touch if you have any feedback or questions! π
Special thanks to flock members: Albert Kao and @fritzfrancisco.bsky.social
We revisited a 2017 study by Sasaki and Biro that showed pairs of pigeons flying home, similar to a game of telephone π found shorter homing routes, and yet, mechanisms explaining this improvements were unexplored. π€
π¨Pre-print alert!π¨
Excited to share our recent study that explores the navigation mechanism(s) pigeons π¦ use to improve homing efficiency and if these fit the criteria of cummulative cultural evolution. www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1...
These are so nicely done!π
