Just spent two hours learning French just to make sure I finished first in this week’s Duolingo league table. Damn, that app really has figured out how to motivate you to learn a language!

I think that companies that see AI as an opportunity to increase ROI by delivering the same output with fewer employees are going to be crushed by those that see it as an opportunity to deliver more with the same number.

Reading the start of Oliver Burkeman’s “Four Thousand Weeks”, about how fundamental clocks are to our relationship with time, I’m struck by how hard it would be to go a day without looking at a clock, even if you just spent it home alone. iOS doesn’t even offer a way to hide the clock!
