Ooof. Sorry to hear that. Stay safe, my friend. Sad I even have to say that.
I love that you just pulled out a Natalie Imbruglia reference. Haha! Love it.
Fantastic game in Cville this afternoon. Hoos basketball is a fun watch this season.
Iβm liking this! Mid weeks kinda sucks. But Iβm gonna try and make that work.
Even though I said it. Iβm not gonna claim itβs correct.
Iβm a little behind on the streamβ¦ but whatever theyβre doing after Jack Straw is sublime.
Just gonna say it. As a pretty rabid Goose fan, that Jack Straw was better than anything they did last year. π
Holy hell, JRAD. What an intro jam into Jack Straw. JRAD doing JRAD things shouldnβt surprise me anymore. But they do.
14) Finally, I love that Peterβs happily using the community-coined term βGoontzβ in his discourse. While I donβt feel strongly about that style in general, itβs pretty cool to see him adopt it and acknowledge it as a thing. Excited to see where we go in 2026.
Thanks for the love Neal. Yβall did an excellent job.
13) Would be totally in on a bracket that has no seeds and song names arenβt known. Letβs make it happen!
12) the conversation around the post-peak jams and multi-part jamming is excellent. The active listening and cooperation among the members in these sections has to be so on point.
11) Finally some vindication of my own bracket. Pete goes with Dustin over Thatch. First time our choices align. Being an outlier from the mass group think can be lonely sometimes. Thanks for making me feel like maybe I belong, Peter. π
10) I love the conversation about the Cape Cod jam from 2024. There was a conversation over at community.wysterialane.com a couple days ago about our favorite jammed out covers. That Cape Cod is probably my all time favorite. Helps it was also a sit in. Ezra wanted an 8β version. Hahaha.
9) Forgot to mention Peterβs shoutout to Trevor in the early portion of the pod. Trevor, IMO was the clear MVP of 2025. He shined in pretty much every show. More in 2026, please.
8) Nealβs conversation about the Madhuvan holding melodic components amid the dissonance is great insight. And Peteβs acknowledgement that the band is working on the blend of dark/chaos with that is fantastic. There were several great βdark blissβ jams throughout the year. Look forward to more inβ26
7) of course right after I rip chaotic exploration, Pete says 2/15 Madhuvan is his JOTY. LOL. His insight into what he looks for in his rankings in his look-back at the year is pretty freaking awesome though. Even if heβs wrong. π
6) Peteβs disappointment that some of the great shorter jams being left off the bracket resonates with me. I think we as a fan base give too much weight to the length of a jam. Getting to the point without some of the chaotic βexplorationβ should be rewarded more. Good jams are good at any length.
5) inre set list question from Peter: bring back Time to Flee. Really my only complaint. And Iβd love to see Shelf come back. Super unpopular opinion. But those lyrics are too poignant to never play it again. And I guess Iβd like to see less Goontz style jams. Great conversation though.
4) The nod to Raleigh Atlas Dogs as the seeds of Goontz is revelatory. Was at that show and in the moment a bunch of us spread through the venue were texting back and forth, realizing something special was happening⦠w/o understanding fully what it was yet.
3) Pete mentions how if youβre listening to the older shows wanting to be critical of the technical things and nit picking the jams, youβre missing the point. And heβs absolutely correct. Itβs about the journey and understanding where they came from and the evolution.
2) @peteranspach.bsky.social call out of the old Great Blue stuff now on Nugs and reference to the older Goose shows as a great representation of the evolution of their sound hits home. Do yourselves a favor and dig into the 2018/2019 catalog. Either Nugs or tune into @wtedradio.com will help.
@aatgoosepod.bsky.social amazing podcast here with @peteranspach.bsky.social inre Gooseβs last year. Tons of tasty tidbits. Hereβs some of my thoughts as i make my through the podcast.
1) Bob Weir shout-out is special in that I think Peteβs approach to his rhythm playing is very Bob-like.
1/β¦
Elmeg would make for some interesting artistic possibilities. Or Travelers or RWH
Was a time in my life I mighta thunk you were talking about a wine.
And yeah, I realize this was in yesterdayβs matchup. I havenβt been doing voting etc so didnβt listen then. Going sequentially thru the year making notes for a radio show.
Revisiting this one today as I work my way through 2025 again. Fuck it. Iβm a Thatcher. If you know my feelings on early Thatchβs you understand how hard it is for me to say this. Iβm in my 50s so I know itβs not maturation (too old for that shit). Must be something in the water.
Itβs not really about the jams. Itβs about the Leeβs we rediscovered along the way. Or some sort of bullshit like that. π€·
Catching up on the JRAD Cap N3. Man, what a sweet and tender Half Step. With some Shining Star mixed in. Gorgeous.
