We published a new study about some more stable perovskite/silicon tandems in Nature Materials. Xinyi started using PbCl2 for co-evaporated films that allowed him to get orientated films. www.nature.com/articles/s41...

We, including @lukaswagner.bsky.social, @rpietzcker.bsky.social, @mldavies04.bsky.social, looked into the necessary steps to keep solar energy growing on the long term by actively addressing the different dimensions of sustainability www.nature.com/articles/s44... in @natrevcleantech.nature.com
Best news I have been reading this week :) www.science.org/content/arti...
Was macht die Politik?
Come do a PhD with us! π§ͺβοΈ
This position is part of a collaborative project to understand and improve the stability of perovskite-silicon tandem solar cells. You'd be based at @uni-freiburg.de working in close collaboration with @fraunhoferise.bsky.social.
Deadline 30.11.2025
There is a worrisome new law on the way for researchers in the US. See the screenshot from the science article. It would have devastating consequences for perovskite solar cells researchers in the US. I am feeling really sorry for my colleagues
Congrats Lukas :) very well deserved!
Dr. T-Rex presented yesterday their latest perovskite solar cell research. They are struggling a bit with reaching the chemicals in the glovebox but otherwise things are going smoothly
βThe solar coating can be applied with any paint color and does not use silicon or rare earth materials.β Does not sound like perovskites (βany paint colorβ) or III-V (βrare earthβ) for me - maybe a dye-based but then the 20% efficiency doesnt make sense. So not sure π
Congratulations to Flo π₯³ he just successfully defended his PhD with summa cum laude π in the back a happy supervisor
We had a great beamtime at I15-1 at Diamond. Got to shine some light on lead halide perovskites.
How cool!
Those perovskites are considerably more stable than any other perovskite.

Butylamine takes a H+ from methylammonium and forms a mixed 2D perovskite of BAMAPbI3 (the n is mixed). The 2D perovskite is then converted into a 3D perovskite with a conversion of FAI in butanol. One ends up with a phase pure FAPbI3 film.
Heard a lot of people talk about the stability of the perovskite layer at the nature conference. A first good step is leaving behind coordinating solvents like DMSO and instead use amines which end up as part of the final perovskite! Using butylamine as coordinating solvent together with MeTHF
On the way now to the Nature Conference for Perovskite Solar Cells :) hope to see some of you there!
Love this snippet from the recent 80000 podcast. 80000hours.org/podcast/epis...
New research from Queens University shows the critically endangered flapper skate continues its slide to extinction. The lead author, Patrick Collins, told me that it's not too late but decisive action is needed.

Kann mir nicht vorstellen das es nur einen Grund dafuer gibt. Sind vermutlich schon mehrere Einflussfaktoren.
I have never heard an English speaker pronounce my first and last name right. But same goes for Germans at times - peak was when I got a swimming cap for Christmas from my coach which was spelled PhiLLippe.
Yeah agree π I hope it comes back with time!
Somehow a bit sad here for perovskites. On twitter I had the feeling there was still somewhat of a perovskite solar cells community. But I havent really seen many interesting posts here about it.
It is so rewarding!!! Had a similar experience last year. It was awesome to show at the conference
Sorry to hear! One of the postdoc in your lab published in Nature after leaving the lab. He was driving for Uber at that time. Now he is a professor in Egypt.
