The 'insurgent' campaigns that could challenge Dutton's path to power Peter Dutton is fighting to keep seats that were once considered unlosable as independents — better funded and better organised than before — join the race.

Independents are legitimate candidates with as much right to stand for a seat as any party member.

They should be reported as serious candidates who are offering something voters may want.

They’re not challenging the natural order, they are the natural order.
