So the embodied carbon in the ink doesn’t count? Why’s that? Because of its (predicted) longevity?
So what makes it GGR or not? (Asking for a friend)

I found possibly my worst ever example of a obliterated public footpath today at Cerrig-tranau-uchaf by the Dyfi floodplain. Signs gone, barbed wire, overgrown brambles and a bridge reduced to a steel bar!
llun POV o goesau a trainers rhedeg yn symud yn ofalus ar draws bar dur dros ffos ddraenio. POV image of legs and running shoes edging across a steel bar over a drainage ditch
Mieri trwchus lle mae llwybr cyhoeddus wedi’i farcio. Thick brambles where a public footpath is marked
Ordnance Survey Explorer map showing the public footpath which has been obliterated. Map Explorer yr Ordnance Survey yn dangos y llwybr cyhoeddus sydd wedi’i ddinistrio.
@righttoroam.bsky.social Des i ar draws, efallai, yr enghraifft waethaf erioed o lwybr cyhoeddus wedi’i ddinistrio heddiw yn Cerrig-tranau-uchaf ger cors Dyfi. Dim arwyddion, gwifren bigog, mieri wedi tyfu’n wyllt, a phont wedi’i lleihau i far dur yn unig! [English follows]
On my way to FfS’s Dyfi home. A stop at Rhug for an overpriced snack. There are pictures of Charles and Camilla in 2013 suspiciously receiving a bouquet. Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall. Quite a statement of colonial domination that - Cymru and Kernow, handled by the next Anglo in line.
Very excited to have made a major infrastructural move for FfS today. A secondhand (of course) @frame.work laptop running @mxlinux.bsky.social and @kdenlive.bsky.social
A major step towards the anti-extractivist Ffilm School. Freedom from Adobe, Apple and Avid. 1/
6/* I’m interested in talking through these tensions. If a creative commons of film and a post-extractivist filmmaking economy is the aim, how do we navigate getting there?
5/* there is also the question of the right to refuse use of your knowledges (rushes). Non-commercial restrictions don’t prevent extractivist colonising purposes.
4/* talking with @paulakahumbu.bsky.social at the 2023 @bectu.bsky.social Autumn Gathering she spoke of her frustration, as a maker of African-led nature documentaries, that the non-commercial restrictions inhibited the possibility of a successful indigenous filmmaking, keeping the power in the UK
3/* you can see that by doing this you build a non-capitalist filmmaking ecology. However, while this prefigures a (from our perspective) desirable post-extractivist filmmaking economy, the restriction to be non-profit makes it difficult to exist in the world as it is.
2/* And that this would be done on a non-commercial and share-alike basis (meaning whatever is made is made available on the same terms - the film it is used in can also not be used in for-profit filmmaking). This is an anti-capitalist position.
1/* There are unresolved tensions we identify in Creative Commons. FfS holds as an ideal that all rushes would end up in an open access commons which filmmakers could browse and braid into new films.
Another example of Creative Commons archive openplanet.org again on a non-commercial basis.
The lowest impact form of filmmaking is reuse. ♻️ Imagine a filmmaking ecology where all rushes entered the Creative Commons. Here’s a start: sound-effects.bbcrewind.co.uk Available on a by attribution non-commercial licence.
Thank you NSotA cymrawd! Website soon to be updated. FfS soon to be launched recruiting for 6 PAID participants - residential phase August 15-30. Solidarity!
Leaves emerging from the uppermost buds of an English elm, silhouetted against the sky and against the scrubby fringes of Heartswood, a new forest generated from arable farmland in Hertfordshire. The elm is still young, planted in 2014 as a sapling. Greyscale.
In 2014 my family and I planted a host of trees in Heartwood forest, north of St Albans, to mark what would have been my elder brother Edward’s 40th birthday. Two of the trees were from the survivor English elms, Castle Acre and Pottersbury, ancestrial homes of each side of the family. They live.
