Drivers wonder if they should go electric as the war spikes gas prices
Oil and gasoline prices are rising as the war in Iran intensifies and other global conflicts affect supply. That means pain at the pump for drivers filling up with gas.
AP: Does driving electric really save money?
Also AP: Pretty much.
"People who buy EVs have a 'really substantial' gas savings over the life of their vehicles even without government tax credits, said Peter Zalzal, an attorney with Environmental Defense Fund."

On My Mind & In My Heart
We currently live in a world that is rapidly changing. And depending on where you stand, many would say it is for the worse.
Really strong, spacious essay from john a. powell, director @obi-belonging.bsky.social on what we need to save from the "old world order" and some encouragement for getting us to the new one.

Now think about an EV instead. The sun produces energy by fusing hydrogen atoms into helium. It travels 93 million miles in about eight minutes and 20 seconds (seven seconds more when our orbit takes us furthest away). Those photons then strike the silicon atoms in a photovoltaic panel, knocking loose electrons that produce a stream of direct current electricity; an inverter, now usually contained in the panel, converts that to AC power, which can be pumped directly into the battery of an EV where the motor uses electromagnetism to create a rotating magnetic field in a stator, which spins the inner rotor to propel the car. There are about 20 moving parts in the engine, and it is 80 to 90 percent efficient. There is no exhaust and almost no noise. Thatβs it. And if you poured those electrons into an e-bike instead of an EV, itβs even better: a pennyβs worth of power is good for three miles or so. The same principles apply to electric buses, electric ferries, and so on.
