❗ And now we, or rather #RepublikMagazine, are being sued. A small independent Swiss media company, founded eight years ago without advertising, & financed by its readers. By one of the largest tech companies in the world.
The publication was clearly not well received by #Palantir. Their blog discredited our work, my colleagues were personally attacked on LinkedIn. On 29 Dec, we received a demand for a list of changes to the report. We rejected this. This was followed by a second demand, which we also rejected.
The quotes we used were presented to them & given the green light. Of course, we always adhered to the high standards of journalistic work. We carried out thorough fact-checking before publication.
💡 These facts have been published 100x by renowned media. Our research relating to #Switzerland & #Zurich is based on this. In addition to analysing documents, we also spoke to various sources – including Palantir executives here in Zurich.
🤔 #Palantir is not just any company. #ICE uses its products to hunt down migrants. The #IDF uses it in Gaza. The NHS has become dependent on it for data analysis. CEO #AlexKarp displays inhumane & aggressive rhetoric towards #Europe. The company advertises its ‘optimization of the kill chain’.
🔎 The most explosive piece of our research was an internal army report. The evaluation concluded that the Swiss army should refrain from using Palantir products. Not suitable, plus reputational risk. Most important: the army feared that sensitive Swiss data could be passed on to US authorities.
We had an extensive amount of documents that we obtained from dozens of authorities in Switzerland thanks to the Freedom of Information Act (Öffentlichkeitsgesetz). The documents enabled us to trace Palantir's 7-year sales campaign to numerous authorities, & how the company was repeatedly rebuffed.
What happened? We published our investigation on 8 & 9 December 2025 as a two-part series on Palantir's activities in and out of Switzerland. We – five journalists – spent over a year with this investigation.
