When Quintus disbanded his Legion and shot himself, it put everything into stark perspective. Quintus was just another victim of the Garlean Empire.

In the end, Darius didn't like Quintus, but he understood him.

At the same time, Darius's Garlean upbringing was gnawing at him: ingrained conditioning to respect the Legati, the cultural romanticizing of a doomed Legion's noble defiance of its fate. The knowledge that were he in Quintus's position, Darius wouldn't have been willing to see his duty through. -

Quintus became emblematic of everything that caused Garlemald's collapse, everything that had EVER been wrong with it. One of the cultural elite who had run the country into the ground and was now choking the life out of his legionnaires because he was too proud to know what he was beat. -

Quintis for his part, was dismissive of Darius's status as a citizen- he'd returned to Garlemald as part of the Ilsabard contingent and was therefore a foreign invader.

He'd come back to Garlemald after DECADES only to be told almost immediately that he *wasn't* Garlean. Same as it ever was. -

Darius has a lot of contempt for Quintus, but it's tempered by an undercurrent of begrudging respect.

Aside from Quintus and the 1st Legion being part of the civil war that tore the capital apart, Darius was also really disdainful of the fact that Quintus hadn't abandoned the idea of 'The Empire'-

Darius is a condescending jackass about religion- in that he doesn't respect ANY form of it. It's the most Garlean thing about him, and he's really bad at checking that knee-jerk reaction.

It's bad enough that people who know him will occasionally pre-empt his reaction to stop it.

Each Garlean legion has its own way of welcoming new recruits.

Darius has taken jobs from Hancock to 'acquire' goods and rare pieces on occasion.

Hancock sees Darius as a useful criminal, and Darius sees Hancock as a criminal in all but name. They don't trust eachother, but Darius always gets the job done and Hancock always pays in full.

They get along really well. They're both Garlean deserters, and both engineers who have a chip on their shoulder about Cid Garlond.

They periodically collaborate on work, and Nero has rubbed off on Darius a bit- derisively calling Cid "Garlond" instead of by his first name, to Cid's chagrin.

Darius didn't like the Emperor, and he didn't like Varis. Zenos is basically a worse version of them who's even BETTER at killing people. Avoid at all costs.

In his normal canon, Darius is utterly beneath Zenos's notice.

Violent Grandpa himself: Lyon rem Helsos.

Darius gets on her bad side for a little while because he compares the Crystarium to a cult based on how they all follow a mysterious, pseudo-messianic figure whom they know little about.

Things get smoothed over later, though.

Damn, this is a good one.

I think M'naago heard a lot about Darius from older members of the resistance and wonders if half of it is true.

A lot of it is! The good *and* the bad!

Darius likes her- she's got her head on straight, wasn't taken in by the Griffin.
