I was wondering about this too. Keeping units vacant to keep nominal rents high makes sense in short term maybe? But high vacancy levels/lower revenue would surely not be good in medium/long term? Most of these companies arent listed of course so we dont know much about them

Ireland's biggest landlord tells investors new rent rules will be major boost for shareholders Sinn Féin finance spokesperson Pearse Doherty said the details of Ires Reit’s projections would “send a shiver down the spine of all renters”.
