A graphic titled “MASKING” lists examples of behaviours associated with masking in neurodivergent individuals, including not speaking for fear of appearing awkward, practising conversations and phone calls, mimicking others’ gestures and tones of voice, suppressing stims and feelings of overstimulation, forcing eye contact, rehearsing social scripts, and sacrificing personal needs for the comfort of others. The design features layered side-profile silhouettes.
As SEND reform evolves, there’s a real risk that children who mask will be overlooked, despite carrying significant hidden anxiety & exhaustion. We believe true inclusion starts with emotional safety, so young people can unmask, belong, and be valued for who they are, not just how well they cope.
An excellent biography is 'Virginia Woolf' by Hermione Lee, Professor of English Literature at York.
From what I remember, Michael Cunningham's novel, on which Daldry's film is based, is a fairly consistant interpretation of biographical sources by those who knew Virginia Woolf during those times and within that culture. I have always found her to be a fascinating individual to study.
For me, now, the best film has to be Vita & Virginia (2018) by Chanya Button, but a lot of critics would disagree.
I first watched The Hours in 2005 – the first of many films about Virginia Woolf's life. At the time I enjoyed Nicole Kidman's depiction of Woolf very much. I've always found VW's letters more interesting than her novels, although Orlando is brilliant. I love everyone and everything Bloomsbury.
