Another #govDesign job klaxon π
At @digitalservice.bund.de, we are looking for a mid-level #contentDesignβer and a working-student #userResearchβer to join us.
Itβs been a while since we opened these roles, so I am really excited about listing these:

Via a #MegaMentor link on my website, people can book time to speak with me.
Iβll do my best to answer their questions, give advice, and provide feedback.
For the past 6 years or so, Iβve made over a hundred calls.

A square graphic rotated slightly clockwise. Inside the square, the text 'ONE TEAM GOV' is stacked in three lines. Both the border and the text use a vibrant color gradient that transitions from bright orange at the top left to deep pink at the bottom right.
The awesome Sam Villis (@stamanfar.bsky.social) hosted the first #OneTeamGov virtual meet-up of 2026 this week.
One of the things we discussed was doing a 10th anniversary #unconference next year in 2027.
Please like and repost if you're interested.
And you can't 'just leave this to the private sector'. As GOV.UK Verify showed, the private sector does not know much about the most marginalised in society, since they are not a source of profit. Yet people in such situations rely on public services the most.
Old beard guy that's not Jukesie
If it's your first time at #ukgc26 and it's a bit overwhelming, I'm Ian, come and say hello, I'm the old beardy guy that's not @jukes.ie π
FOMO! ππ
(one year Iβll get my act together - glad Iβve worked out already that year is not 2026)
"What is the ROI of UX?" is shaped like a question, but it is actually two hostile premises:
1) that UX is sufficiently marginal for its value to be openly questioned
2) that the asker has the authority to judge this question, and practitioners are merely consulted on it, as a matter of courtesy
Ziggaruts flashbacks. My wife (the doctor) always had the alumni magazine casually discarded about her flat.
THE MAINTENANCE π
No cheating, reskeet with the most recent photo of your pet.
Donβt worry gang, no one actually starts their New Yearβs resolutions on the 1st. And youβd be silly to begin on a Friday, best save it for Monday. But Monday is the 5th so youβve kind of missed the boat anyway and can safely put it off for next year.
Magic porridge pot, but itβs M&S box wine.
It really does!
I paused around Act 3 (4 alters) due to exactly that π
Currently driving my station wagon around the exclusion zone (Pacific Drive) π
Can anyone recommend someone looking for contract work in January who can do a mix of Product and Delivery? Going to CC @jukes.ie as it's for the team you just left! But open to good people from anywhere

Inspired by attending @govcampcymru.bsky.social , me, @niacampbell.bsky.social and @monikasw.bsky.social have been working on this little website to help promote working in the open and digital resources in Walesβ¦

Yay!
In 2026 we are reinstating the regular One Team Gov breakfast club in London and also running a virtual one for anybody who doesn't have a meetup near them.
If you're interested you can sign up for both using the link (and please retweet/skeet!)

βitβs fine Iβm not a ratβ - love them but they tear us up. Hope all goes well with recovery β€οΈ
These great photos you share have _seriously_ influenced what Iβve been wishing for from Father Christmas this year π»
If anyone with more technical skills than I can help me improve the setup, Iβd appreciate it a lot.
Iβm currently maintaining a static HTML page that I update manually. FetchRSS seems to scrape the content well.
I will monitor this in the coming days and provide updates.
Any tips are welcome!

This is the 446th edition of Internet of Public Service Jobs - newsletter.digitalbydefault.jobs/internet-of-...
I'm going to try and do a DM 'special' at the weekend so please let me know of any agile delivery vacancies you see out there.
Broken record mode
You canβt do any service transformation work without working with operations colleagues.
Issuing laws and publishing policy papers is pointless if you donβt talk about and workshop these documents with the people who are supposed to follow them.
These are the best moments, too.
People are impacted everyday when accessibility isn't considered.
It's not a distant, theoretical concept when you are directly impacted.
When you assume that your service will have no disabled users it excludes people.
Many people won't disclose until they come across something they can't do.
Ahhh! simpler times.
I really miss the library sandwiches π
Quite possibly the best stickers EVER.
Iβm on the lookout for a new contract (preferably inside).
Iβve got over a decade of experience working in the public sector, mostly in agile delivery management. Two weeks notice.
Not got DMs here but Signal is zuz.1337, or LinkedIn is good.
Thx :)

Preach. Finance departments are barely in the internet age and equate sticking with tried and tested (and terrible) with providing a safe and reliable service π
