Not entirely. Only the European Parliament can table a motion of censure, not the (European) Council. The Commission is accountable to the European Parliament, not to the (European) Council. Moreover, a motion of censure forces the entire Commission to resign, not individual Commissioners. 1/

Wat telt is welke politieke keuzen er zijn gemaakt. De risico’s van afhankelijkheid zijn allang bekend. toch wordt het afstappen van fossiel steeds weer getraineerd. daarvoor wordt nu de rekening gepresenteerd. Niet alleen aan de pomp, maar in de hele economie. Het moet en kan anders
Anders lezen: niet de gebruikers maar degenen die de besluiten nemen.
Ik doel niet op de gebruikers, maar degenen (beleidsmakers, industrie) die al jaren de overgang naar andere energiebronnen blokkeren. Die de ogen sloten voor de risico’s van afhankelijkheid van fossiel. De gebruikers betalen nu de prijs voor die kortzichtigheid.
De verontwaardiging gaat over hetzelfde punt: de prijs die nu wordt betaald

Dat is het punt: voor veel mensen is er vandaag niet ogenblikkelijk een alternatief. Veel mensen betalen nu dus een zeer hoge prijs voor de vele jaren dat de transitie werd vertraagd, gesaboteerd of teruggedraaid.
Het zure is: die hartverzakking was te voorkomen geweest.
Fans van Fossiel krijgen een forse reality check. De transitie naar hernieuwbare energie werd weggewimpeld als niet "haalbaar en betaalbaar". Waarschuwingen over energie-afhankelijkheid in de wind geslagen. Maatregelen terugdraaien om de auto-industrie te paaien. Kortzichtigheid wordt duur betaald.
If national leaders object to a role for the Commission President in foreign affairs, maybe they should acknowledge she is just stepping into the vacuum left by their failure to agree on anything?
In today's world we can no longer afford an EU that is thrust into crisis with each national election. We can no longer afford an EU where national egoes and external actors take precedence over the stability and security of the people of Europe. Constitutional reform is urgent.

The problem is not enlargement, but the lack of enforcement of the rules within the EU. That should be fixed by EU reforms, not by keeping candidates out.
EU enlargement was always a matter of political strategy, never of technocratic box-ticking. Each wave of enlargement made Europe stronger. Today’s leaders should heed that lesson and work towards a swift accession of Ukraine and the other candidates. My blog:

The Commission proposal is not "controversial", its is the shortsightedness and hypocrisy of national leaders that is the real problem. Ukraine should join the EU asap.
