#Pot #Kettle case, as #EUCO shows utter contempt for the institutional balance laid down in the Treaties, as it is systematically overstepping its powers and violating the powers of Commission and Parliament. This quiet dismantling of the constitutional framework of the EU is deeply alarming

Today the institutional balance created by the Treaties (ao checks&balances, separation of powers, accountability) is no longer respected. The European Council (not accountable to anyone) acts as a quasi government, and the Commission as its secretariat. The democratic balance must be restored. 2/

Not entirely. Only the European Parliament can table a motion of censure, not the (European) Council. The Commission is accountable to the European Parliament, not to the (European) Council. Moreover, a motion of censure forces the entire Commission to resign, not individual Commissioners. 1/

If national leaders object to a role for the Commission President in foreign affairs, maybe they should acknowledge she is just stepping into the vacuum left by their failure to agree on anything?

In today's world we can no longer afford an EU that is thrust into crisis with each national election. We can no longer afford an EU where national egoes and external actors take precedence over the stability and security of the people of Europe. Constitutional reform is urgent.

A critical journalist and migration activists targeted in the same #Paragon spyware attack. Who had the means & motive: the Italian government. No-one else has a motive, and spyware is expensive and not sold to normal citizens. Like in other EU countries spyware is being used for political purposes.

The problem is not enlargement, but the lack of enforcement of the rules within the EU. That should be fixed by EU reforms, not by keeping candidates out.

Kos-'n-Kohl - the merit of speed EU enlargement needs leadership, not accountancy

EU enlargement was always a matter of political strategy, never of technocratic box-ticking. Each wave of enlargement made Europe stronger. Today’s leaders should heed that lesson and work towards a swift accession of Ukraine and the other candidates. My blog:

Reply of @ec.europa.eu to my letter of March '25 (!) Re transatlantic data transfers. It is crystal clear that even at this stage of transatlantic relations, the Commission flatly refuses to ensure protection of European citizens’ rights, but relies instead on the β€œpretence of compliance” policy

The @ec.europa.eu #EUCO @eppgroup.bsky.social claim the Digital Omnibus, slashing data protection, responds to the needs of European businesses. But does it? @noyb.eu ran a survey. The answers may surprise you. πŸ‘‡

More developments on the #Predatorgate front in Greece: top court orders EYP (intelligence service) to hand over the file on @nasoskoukakis.bsky.social, the journalist who had also been targeted with spyware. Let's hope this will lead to some real justice and accountability in this case

The Commission proposal is not "controversial", its is the shortsightedness and hypocrisy of national leaders that is the real problem. Ukraine should join the EU asap.

The US Senate voted itself into irrelevance #WarPowersAct. It fits the global trend of governments gaining unbridled powers, while parliamentary powers are dwindling. The EU version is the quiet power grab by #EUCO as @europarl.europa.eu is being sidelined. Will we wake up on time?

At this point expressing support for Spain equals standing up for Europe.

Same as ao Novartis, Tempi scandals: there may be court cases and convictions, but never any accountability of the responsible politicians

Greece Predator scandal: Four convicted over spyware affair that shook Greece In what became known as

"πŸ‡¬πŸ‡·Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, who had placed EYP directly under his supervision, called it a scandal, but no government officials have been charged in court and critics accuse the government of trying to cover up the truth."
