NEW: The Trump administration cited β€œperformance” failures to justify its mass firing of IRS workers.

But this claim was β€œfalse,” a senior agency attorney warned officials, because the administration had not conducted any such performance assessment.

Almost ready to bring the Little Furries home. Just one kitten-sized gap between the foundation and the wall studs in the basement to block. Haven’t had a critter who could jump that high since Max and Cavendish were this age, and that was 13 years ago!

3/3 What do they expect will happen now that it’s too late? Too bad their shortsightedness is going to take the rest of us into disaster with them. (Sorry to be such a downer on the eve of a holiday, but I’m having difficulty being positive about much of anything today.)

2/3 Oh, yes, and all those farmers who now realize they voted to deport the only workers who are willing to do the backbreaking labor of planting and harvesting our food. Where were their brains when we TOLD them what would happen?

My latest browse through X and FB churned up a lot of Trump voters with preexisting conditions who are now realizing that they voted to take their own healthcare away. And there’s a whole bunch of construction companies whose managers are now realizing that they voted to deport their own workers.

I will die on this hill:
Every level 1-3 emergency room in the country should have a pharmacist and social worker staffed 24/7. I’ve been in ERs that don’t, and the differences are crystal clear.

I’ve been spending time lately browsing through tinybuddha.com . It seems to have less toxic positivity than most meme-producing sites, and occasionally comes up with something that resonates, like this.

When we can’t fix things for people we care about, like elderly relatives or children or old friends, we deal with guilt on top of the grief. We’re getting older, and don’t bounce as well as we used to, either physically or emotionally. It makes me very, very tired.

The last 2-3 years have been increasingly hard for many of us, especially those of us who design things, make things, write things, edit things.

We’re Fixers. Our whole careers have been dedicated to Making Things Work Better.

Mutton, an Indigenous woolly dog, died in 1859 βˆ’ new analysis confirms precolonial lineage of this... Dogs have lived with Indigenous Americans since before they came to the continent together 10,000 years ago. A new analysis reveals the lineage of one 1800s β€˜woolly dog’ from the Pacific Northwest...

β€œPrior to the arrival of Europeans, the Indigenous Coast Salish peoples of the Pacific Northwest had traditionally maintained a breed of long-haired dog for the purpose of harvesting their hair, or wool, for textile fibers.” theconversation.com/mutton-an-in...

As I’m recovering from the first set of spinal nerve ablations, it does look like I’ll be able to start PT and get myself in good enough shape to go on the London theater tour again in March. So, I’m keeping my eye out for products/exercises/tips for surviving the long flight.

We're in a surge so here's your reminder that while it's best to be infected 0 times, if you've been infected before, just do your best to avoid being infected again. You should always be trying to avoid your next infection. The damage adds up. Your body will thank you later.

@neilhimself.neilgaiman.com My friend is the new librarian at a low income area school. Will you share this so she can get her nonfiction section updated? Their encyclopedia set was from the 70s when she started this summer.
