Where's that "the problem is capitalism" sticker when I need it. 😝 There's so much bullshit that works even when you admit it's bullshit, but because it sells better to claim it's Facts, that's what all these vaunted authorities end up doing. And then people think there's no truth underneath at all.
And when the two of you discuss or even argue, I'm excited because that kind of thing is how humanity gets the best knowledge. Even if also I'm scared of some faction thing happening as a side effect. 😂 Aren't we such amazing little mammals?
All this to say, I'm very excited for Mutt's book! I can't claim to agree with every assertion she's ever made, but she's knowledgeable and competent in what she's doing, and has a clear passion for getting this right -- and protecting the vulnerable.
I'm in this place where I desperately want to get more people in all the hypno knowledge silos to believe in Science more, when I'm not sure I believe in our science. And "get people to believe thing you're not sure is true" is exactly what I would like everyone to STOP doing!
How do you measure rapport? How do you determine if the researchers were hypnotizing the subjects according to a script, or just reading it off without any understanding of or confidence in what they were doing? I've got some physics envy when it comes to The Science.
There's also a person in CONsolation more knowledgeable about The Science of kink things in general, and who I'd ask if I wanted to find out if there's a basis for this or that community belief, because she often has references. But it's hard when it's all paper and no recording.
I feel like you do a good job of analysis and synthesis, and people look up to you as an authority. Ironically, I think we advance the science by getting people to also look up to Mutt as an authority, and getting some of the most successful sellers of knowledge to link to y'all more.
I agree about needing to educate people better how to discern truth, or as least tell good science from bad (better from worse?). It gets extra difficult when there's so much disagreement about what truth even is, and how important it is compared to the power of belief.
