I wondered if that was the case, but itβs a pity that it hides the way that αδΡλΟΞΏΞ― for the Gentiles mirrors the αδΡλΟΞΏΞ― used to refer to the elders, highlighting the newly ratified unity between Jewish and Gentile believers.
Lecturing on Acts last night, I was discussing the recognition of Gentiles as "brothers" in Acts 15:23. A student commented that the NIV doesn't describe the Gentiles as "brothers" but as "believers". The Greek has "ΟΞΏαΏΟ... αΌΞ΄Ξ΅Ξ»ΟΞΏαΏΟ αΌΞΎ αΌΞΈΞ½αΏΆΞ½". Anyone know why the NIV went with "believers"?
