Åre Risk Event – On Tour 2026, the conference that we at the Risk and Crisis Research Centre at Mid Sweden University This year’s format is new and means that we are taking the conference outside of Åre to create new meeting spaces and give participants a unique opportunity to visit our lab.
The findings challenge established views of active labour market policy, showing that local programme provision is shaped less by political or needs-based motives and more by structural and administrative factors.
Contrary to common assumptions, the analysis finds that neither unemployment, education levels, social welfare needs nor partisan control explain these differences. Instead, municipal size, tax capacity and organisational conditions emerge as the key drivers.

This study sheds new light on the local politics of welfare decentralisation. Using a new dataset on Sweden’s municipal labour market initiatives, it investigates why some municipalities run extensive local labour market programmes.
The civil service played a dual role; rarely actively participating in the deliberative process while controlling the organisation and preconditions for it explicitly.
Results show a process that largely lives up to deliberative ideals. However, omnipresent economic constraints as well as the perception that participants had to some degree already made up their mind lowers the potential.

Mid Sweden University is looking for a doctoral student to one of two orientations. One research orientation focuses on the interaction between voters, parties, elections, and public opinion. The second research orientation focuses on localpolicymaking and the implementation of political decisions.

Third, a thematic analysis highlights consistency in the detrimental effects of exclusionary policies across different contexts. A distinction between planned excluding practices and policies with such unintended effects are also evident.
Second, the material is explored through network analysis, emphasizing how a few journals lead the distribution of knowledge.
We provide a number of findings based on a systematic review. First, statistical analysis reveals the field’s growth and how it is characterized by publications often combining an impressive set of data and methods.
