Anyhow, it was fun to hang there, put a card over your drink, run two blocks to the OTB, place a bet, then come back to the bar to watch the simulcast. Or if the bartender wanted to place a bet, he’d just leave the establishment in the trusted hands of the customers.

When I lived in Queens in 2003, my local was an Irish place that had the sort of clientele that would bring their kids in after school to do their homework while dad had a few at the bar. $1K/square Super Bowl bets.
