IMO, the standard pack was too small for such a large vehicle. And the LFP cells provide shit range in the cold, eg under 120 miles in some cases.

I don’t think that’s enough volume to allow Rivian to survive. It needs to really expand EV market size, than just take Model Y sales.
Rivian needs to sell 400k cars every year to break even. I realize R3, etc are coming. But they don’t have a lot of runway left, unless they raise much more capital
ICE vehicles are the competition at this price point.
The EV market is more-or-less saturated at the current features+price Venn diagram. Either better features or much cheaper EV to expand market size, IMO.
It takes between 40-50 minutes on an R1 to go from 10-80%. It’s a much larger battery pack though, so takes longer. Can only pump so much kW over a 400V pipe.
One of the biggest gripes from people who wish to go from gas to EV is charging times. 5 minutes to fill up a gas tank is the benchmark.
800v charging cars can go from 10-80% in 12-15 minutes. The R2 in this sense, won’t do much to expand the market size already occupied by incumbent EVs.
IMO, the pricing v features isn’t super compelling or a no-brainer. If it were $5-7K cheaper across the board, it would be. Shows how important the $7500 tax credit was.
Will the R2 be enough to make Rivian survive? I’m not so sure at these prices.
