I follow with abandon academics, writers, artists, and others who make the world more intelligible and enjoyable, but I also likes me some silly stupid posts. As one other poster here has said, my apologies in advance for the dichotomy.

Yet another front row seat to a Philadelphia Orchestra concert tonight. Mahler's "Resurrection" Symphony was on the program; the orchestra, chorus, soloists, and conductor all blew the doors off the hall. Immediate standing ovation of at least ten minutes after the final note!

WHOA!

(Apparently Da Ponte was also a priest in his youth, although he was accused at the time of living in a brothel and "organizing the entertainments there". Sign me up for a priesthood like that!)

Amadeus funny clip - The emperor attends rehearsal (ballet with no music) YouTube video by Llamadeus Mozart

Still on a Mozart tear. Listened (obsessively!) to "Ecco la marcia" from "The Marriage of Figaro" on the commute in today. It (amusingly) is not featured in this clip from "Amadeus".

Side note: @honest2betsy.bsky.social may be amused to know that one of the actors learned the accordion for comedic effect during one act of the play.

Breaking out of my Band Kid rut of seeing only the symphony to support the Weird Drama Kids at Walnut Street Theater today (for Edward Albee's "A Delicate Balance").

A friend recently mentioned an interest in attending a concert with the Mozart Requiem on the program. I've been listening to the "Amadeus" soundtrack as a result, and have renewed and increased my amazement at how awesome the movie and the music both are.

β€œYou're thinking of the $175 billion in tariff money all wrong. As if I had the money back in a safe. The money's not here. Your money's in the White House ballroom, the renaming of the Department of Defense, the $10 billion transfer to the Board of Peace, and a hundred other unauthorized actions.”

"Essayist" works too! I feel like a "writer" must always have an intention, however slight, to write a book. So...when's your book coming out?
