I spent a solid hour in the US bookstore last summer comparing books for my kid (9)!

I chose beautiful Manga Acadamy by Chihiro Howe. I wish it had more on faces, but value it teaches fundamentals and style variety, grounded in realism. It also teaches about materials, storytelling, and purpose.
