Almost 500 have been killed in Lebanon by the enemy, including a priest yesterday. Our fossil heritage is special in that it is connected to our Christian community. In this photo a fossil guitarfish is being gifted to the Vatican.

You can help those affected by the war here: gofund.me/f6fd46bfa

Out now in Contributions from me and @gilespalaeo.bsky.social, a deep dive into an early member of the sturgeon and paddlefish lineage. Bear with me, but thereโ€™s a long backstory highlighting uncertainty about the anatomy of living species and how well-studied fossils can still yield new insights.

Generally, itโ€™s super rare to get their soft parts. There are only a handful of sites globally where fossils of these guys can be found in such high quality. The gladius of cephalopods more regularly preserves though

A beautifully preserved Cretaceous octopus on display at the Mim Museum in Beirut. Lebanese fossils are some of the most important in the world for understanding cephalopod evolution

Beirut is currently under attack. You can donate to help through this link: gofund.me/f6fd46bfa

An exhausting week thatโ€™s ended with a satisfying #FossilFriday

-peer reviewed a paper on Lebanese fossils

-resubmitted a paper on dicynodonts (what I did today)

-managed to model tendons in an FEA

Absolutely thrilled that this novel method is now published! It's been a long time coming, but this method is instrumental in my PhD work and I hope it will prove as useful to others' research!

Check out our new #OpenAccess paper in @commsbio.nature.com redescribing bewhiskered Jurassic shark Bavariscyllium, led by Sebastian Stumpf. Although relationships hard to pin down, its catshark-esque form shows sharks explored varied body shapes from the start. ๐Ÿฆˆใ€ฐ๏ธ

Realised I messed up an FEA model I ran months ago

Banging my head against a wall trying to figure out how to post-process data

Canโ€™t manage to run a script for more FEA models I need to run

Isnโ€™t there something in baseball about 3 strikes and youโ€™re out?
