My #1 tip for aspiring researchers - make sure you invest sufficient time/effort in professional (aka "soft") skills. Discipline knowledge and technical expertise are important, but how you work, interact and communicate with people are also important and become more so the further you progress

Agree. If people care then it becomes political. We want and need people to care. What we also want is for political debate to be civil and (mostly) rational and recognize that while everyone is entitled to an opinion, not all opinions are equal
