In our workplaces and our union, that same spirit drives the fight for fairness, dignity and safety. When women rise together, the world changes. 💜

Claire Sullivan speaks with pride, but also with urgency. International Women’s Day is not only a celebration. It is a call to action. In every crisis, women organise, hold communities together and challenge injustice.
Denise Owen from Ceredigion reminds us that progress does not happen by accident. Women in UNISON organise, challenge inequality and make real change happen in our workplaces and communities. Please support women’s events in your area and keep building our collective strength. ✊
Judith Ozer marked International Women’s Day by celebrating the strong women of UNISON who lifted her up and gave her the confidence to lift others. That is exactly what the UNISON Cymru women’s self organised group is about: women coming together to support one another and build change at work. ✊
Her story is a reminder that women’s resilience has always carried families and communities through. Here’s to the strong women who came before us, the women leading today and the girls we are helping to empower tomorrow. 💜
Continuing our International Women’s Day messages, Alison shares a powerful tribute to her mum, whose strength, care and determination shaped the woman she is today and the values she now wants to pass on to her daughter.
Liz says she has always wanted her daughter Sarah to feel confident about her future and is proud to see her now empowering other women too. This is why women organising in UNISON matters. ♀️
As we continue marking International Women’s Day, Liz Mitchell, chair of the UNISON Cymru women’s self organised group, reminds us why this matters. International Women’s Day is about celebrating women’s achievements, standing up for equality and empowering the next generation.

The Pay Fair for Patient Care campaign secured fairer pay, recognition and training for workers who provide vital patient care – many of them low-paid women.
Watch Jan explain why this victory matters.

Today we celebrate International Women’s Day and the power of women in UNISON. 📣
In this video, UNISON Cymru regional convenor Jan Tomlinson reflects on a major win for healthcare support workers in Wales.
We are now running regular sessions to help people understand how the Senedd works and how the election on 7 May 2026 will shape public services in Wales.
These short online sessions explain devolution and how the election works.

Thanks to everyone who joined us last night for the launch of UNISON Cymru’s Senedd election manifesto.
It was a fantastic evening and good to see UNISON members speaking directly with politicians standing in the upcoming election. Public services are stronger when the voices of workers are heard.
Better public services for a fairer Wales.

We are calling for a £15 minimum hourly wage across all public services, including social care, fair pay and direct bargaining in the Welsh NHS, keeping profit out of care, more council housing and better public transport, and strong social partnership so workers have a real voice.
Today UNISON Cymru is launching our manifesto for the 2026 Senedd election.
Public services across Wales are under real strain. The next Welsh Government must deliver properly funded, publicly delivered services built around communities, not private profit.
This is skilled, emotionally draining work. It is work that looks after our families and our communities. It should be valued properly. Care workers deserve the real living wage, not excuses.

Care workers in Neath Port Talbot are still being sent back and forth between the council and their employer. Everyone is blaming someone else. Meanwhile, they are still waiting for the 39p an hour they are owed.
Some care workers in Wales are still waiting for the real living wage!
Emma is a support worker in Neath and Port Talbot. She has done this job for 14 years. She loves it but she is still being paid minimum wage.
The Welsh Government promised care workers the real living wage.
NHS pay: 3.3% isn’t enough 📉
Welsh Government has accepted a 3.3% pay award for NHS staff from 1 April 2026.
Ministers say this is above CPI inflation at 3%. But CPI does not include housing costs, rail fares or mobile contracts. When those essentials are included, inflation is 3.8%.
Health workers in Wales are already paid less than colleagues in Scotland, where staff negotiate directly with government through their unions.
NHS workers deserve respect and a proper pay rise that reflects the real cost of living.

Staff on bands 1, 2 and entry point of 3 will still get the Real Living Wage top up to £13.45 from 1 April. This will put everyone on that same point. We have demanded urgent talks to make sure that is fixed as soon as possible.
NHS staff in Wales are facing another real terms pay cut.
The 3.3% pay award announced yesterday is below inflation and will leave nurses, healthcare assistants, porters and catering staff worse off.

A trade union brings workers together so they can support each other, raise concerns collectively and negotiate for better pay, safer workplaces and fair treatment.
Unions work because they are made up of ordinary workers choosing to stand together and take action when something needs to change.
