Paphiopedilum venustum is back in flower and full of character. #Orchids This species has wonderfully mottled leaves like jungle kaki.

Masdevallia aurea, this diminutive epiphyte is native to Ecuador and specifically the south eastern Morona-Santiago province. Found growing at elevations of 1,000 to 1,700 metres in the wet tropic biome. Aurea is Latin for golden. This cespitose species grows only to about 6cm high.

Just starting to open. This is a first flowering of a recent cross of Paph. wenshanense x vietnamense. Itβs a primary hybrid, why not one made before? Well Paph. vietnamense was only discovered in 1997, and Paphiopedilum wenshanense was only described in 2000. A very exciting week for me!
