I love this! I think the AI era is leading us towards a kind of folk information theory, the same way the content era led to a folk copyright law.
We're converging on the intuition that "beautiful image of a seashore" contains the same amount of information as an image generated by those words.
We would be better off, honestly, asking if *text* is intelligent — as in, redefining intelligence to meet the *transmission* of meaning that text and language can achieve independently of authorship — than asking if a machine that produces text is intelligent, but maybe that’s just me.
