The government will shut down at midnight tonight!
You may remember the previous shutdown from December 2018-January 2019.
@nhlp.bsky.social has put out information for HUD tenants about the government shutdown. We will update on our Facebook page as we learn more.

@Massachusetts voter table has put out a candidate guide for the city and towns they work with. It focuses on a number of issues that are important to people across the state. You can find that here: tinyurl.com/3vm63e3k
City elections are upon us! In Boston there are 3 challengers for Mayor, a number of at large candidates, and District 7 also has a number of candidates to fill the vacant seat. We currently have our civic engagement team making phone calls and knocking doors in 2 precincts to remind people to vote.
Our executive director and Jordan Stocker senior policy associate also testified to the need for more affordable housing. You can watch their testimony here: tinyurl.com/mrca7jr3 starting at 1:03:10.
Last week MAHT tenant leader Annette White-Cole testified as part of a panel at the join committee on revenue's hearing in support of bill S.1973, An Act relative to affordable housing and environmental adaptation dollars. Her personal story left an impact on the committee.

MAHT ED Michael Kane and Apple Village residents testified at the Housing Comm. hearing for βAn Act to Prevent & Respond to Bullying of Elderly & Disabled Residentsβ (S.1007, H.1525). The bill lays a foundation for the AG & MGMT to address bullying in public & subsidized multifamily housing.
Yesterday MAHT attended the Boston City Council budget vote. We got $1.6 million in the budget to increase the City Rent Subsidy Program. Though it is not the full $4 million we asked for, it is great that the city council supports this program. tinyurl.com/y3vv4eae
On April 28th our executive director Michael Kane joined GBH Amplifies panel on Prioritizing Solutions to the Mass Housing Crisis You can view the full video at this link: tinyurl.com/4ucnn88z

Leaders and Organizers for Tenant Empower (LOFTE) chair, Michael Kane was recently interviewed about the plans for deep cuts to section 8 vouchers. "Kane said the proposal is even worse than what the OMB director last proposed eight years ago".

A plan for βdeep cutsβ to Section 8 Vouchers was leaked from the White House Office of Management and Budget (OMB) in an article in the New York Times. The OMB proposal is not final and Congress must vote to make cuts. Find more information and ways to take action via our Linktree in our bio.
Thank you to Rep. Vanna Howard for filing an amendment to increase MRVPβs FY26 allocation from House Ways & Means allocation of $258.1 million to $270 million! The HWM budget is an increase from FY25, but it will only cover costs of EXISTING vouchers. $270M ensures creating necessary MRVP vouchers!
Since MRVP Cookie Day, MAHT has been busy on Beacon Hill! The MAHT Tenants and our allies visited all 200 legislators, and have been following up since! The codification bills (H.1547/S.1008) have almost 20 new cosponsors β almost half the Senate has signed on! Stay tuned for more updates!
