On one hand, I’m not surprised because this is textbook white liberalism and white supremacy at work. On the other hand, coming from SURJ, it is super gross and completely (ostensibly) contrary to the goals of their organization and tenets.

It certainly is not. SURJ has always been an org for white people to support their unlearning and unpacking of white supremacy while finding ways to support social and racial justice within their communities. Endorsing a former mercenary with a Nazi tattoo is contrary to those endeavors.

The thing that drives me nuts about people who talk about Platner being "deserving of redemption" is that Platner has never really acknowledged what he did wrong in the first place. Paths to forgiveness and redemption can and should exist. But like, you have to earnestly get that you messed up.
