As someone who's read the machine code for the GBC Pokémon games, we lost something when we all got to stop optimizing our code. Well, two things: bugs, and the ability to optimize.

Game dev needs to go back to the days of the compact disk. If you can't make your game in 700 MB, you shouldn't be able to make it. If you've proven you can make it in 700 MB, you get a DVD for 8.5 GB. That should be LUXURIOUS.
