Authoritarians will stop at nothing to feel safe. Since they have no concept of public welfare and consider everyone an asset to be used and discarded, they will easily enter into a military conflict without a long-term strategy, regardless of the casualties it causes.

I watched Fredrik Gertten's Breaking Social film last night. It's excellent - powerful, moving, brilliantly explained. It's now touring the UK, so do look out for showings near you.

This unintended thread on one page: skywriter.blue/@georgemonbi...
From 1941 to 1952 in the UK, the top rate of income tax was 98%. A luxury goods purchase tax introduced in 1940 later rose to 100%.
Result? The share of incomes captured by the richest 0.1% fell from 7% in 1937 to just over 1% in 1975. That's what we need today. www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...
I wasn't intending to turn this into a thread, but it seems to have happened anyway.
It's about the great plague on our lives: the extreme wealth of a tiny number of people.
And what to do about it.
Yes, I don't mean an exact copy. I mean that level of taxation, however it is best levied against current wealth structures.
By now, the rich have transformed their income into asset wealth. I doubt thus that "income" tax is sufficient to address this. I would suspect that a form of wealth (asset) tax is needed to force them to relinquish this property, but then it becomes an issue where this should be relinquished to.
Yes, an astonishing story. And after 5 years, the occupying powers suddenly went: "hang on, this looks a bit like socialism. Whoops!". Too late mate. Japan got everything US citizens were not allowed to have.
After the Allied Powers forced the unconditional surrender of the Empire of Japan in 1945, the U.S. occupation policy succeeded in dismantling Japan's wealthy class and redistributing wealth to the general populace. This became the foundation for Japan's subsequent growth.
How much more evidence do we need? The ultra-rich and the governments supporting them will destroy everything for the sake of profit, power and pride. Nothing is precious to them - not human life, not the living world - except their own wealth and status. Our survival depends on resisting them.
THIS WAR HELPS NOBODY BUT THE RICH
And gas in their car to get to work.
Nope!!!!

Texas State Board of Education is rushing through changes to TEKS curriculum, overhauling Social Studies, and new required reading list. This is summary of proposed curriculum changes happening now. April 6 is deadline for email comments and petition.
2. emailing the SBOE contacts with concerns re: the curriculum draft proposed
There are two actionable items
1. signing the petition against the proposed reading list that "whitewashes" the curriculum by excluding women authors and authors of color and adds Bible passages to the required reading list
They are both very concerning, and we need to be aware. I feel that our kids' best interest is not at heart with the politicizing of curriculum and I want to advocate so that our kids can receive a better education.

It's a very deep level of betrayal when veterans who are not also citizens of the US are detained, abused and exiled by the nation they pledged their lives to. Good enough to die for the USA, not good enough to live in it...
"Over 150 people marched Saturday afternoon from the Norfolk Federal building to the center of Town Point Park to show their discontent with the federal governmentβs approach to immigration enforcement and veteranβs rights."
NBCβs Richard Engel: βThe White House meme campaign is outraging many former US military commandersβ¦ they say only someone who has never really seen combat would think itβs a joke and put out material like this.β
