Funnily enough, the Sharks are actually my one true love in hockey, but Buffalo has endeared themselves to me as my second favorite team since apparently I wasn't suffering enough as a Sharks fan 😅 It helps they're in different conferences so I can cheer for both except when they play each other

Tomorrow is the NHL's trade deadline which had me thinking about a Hollanov au where Ilya takes a maintenance day the day before the deadline, and of course all the fans think he's getting traded, and Shane has to explain his husband is fine. He's at home with Anya and will be on the ice tomorrow

He waves back at her, and it quickly becomes a regular occurrence after that because watching Rey play in person is so much more exciting than the games on TV. And the post game kisses as he congratulates Rey on another goal definitely make it all the sweeter.
He still doesn't understand what icing is, and he'll never figure out goalie interference, but when Rey slips that she's playing on Tuesday, he's not going to miss the game for the world.

He's more than a bit clueless about sports and has no idea that he's talking to a forward for the local PWHL team. He just saw the hockey in her bio and wanted to connect, but Rey is somehow charmed by him and his eagerness to listen to her talk.
This issue is endemic in hockey. While I absolutely love the sport, the culture that has festered and grown is profoundly toxic. It's not isolated to the US either. We Breed Lions by Rick Westhead provides a good look at how awful hockey culture is from the youngest teams all the way up to the NHL

He definitely cemented his position on team Canada's roster during the Olympics. And in four years, Canada should have Bedard and Schaefer (among others) which is just going to make the roster stronger (and a lot younger)
Macklin Celebrini - it probably sounds like a bandwagon answer, but I started following the Sharks before he popped off this season (the Sharks play-by-play commentating duo Randy and Drew drew me in, so now I get to suffer as a Sharks fan 😅) and his growth this season has been fun to watch
It's far better that way 😭 team USA has multiple players I can't stand and my favorite player is on team Canada, so them losing to USA is extra frustrating
I had to walk away from my TV 😭 If Hellebuyck hadn't been standing on his head all game, Canada would have won easily and that somehow makes it worse
