It’s barely over a month, before we get get a set that is almost the complete opposite aesthetically (the prerelease issue only exacerbated the feeling of being rushed through)
They need to fix the schedule by 2027. I don’t think back to back UB sets works at all.

An undercurrent to the complaining is that you can make an argument that before Llorwyn the last set that felt like ‘classic’ magic was Tarkir (even though EOE is UW it’s doing something different) So you have this huge gap, then you get a set that feels like ‘classic’ Magic but

So it looks like you’re complaining without actually judging the set on its own merits. Even though you probably are. From what I understand TMNT plays better, but that doesn’t nullify complaints that this is Spider-Man all over again.
Something I haven’t seen articulated much but feels like-

There’s also the reverse where you feel like legitimate criticism is going to be dismissed as UB hate so you don’t bother, which just amplifies the UB hate.

Much later follow up to point out the video Prof put up today hits a lot of what I just in more detail.
It’s not just that Spider-Man was disliked, it’s that TMNT shares many of what appears to be the structural shortcomings of small standalone sets.

I think some of it is just how different it looks from standard magic. if you didn’t know what avatar was, you could look at those cards easily see it as a Magic setting. Turtles not so much.
I also think people feel they have to pay attention to it. You can’t opt out of a standard set easily

This is coming off Llorwyn which was very popular and this is almost the opposite aesthetic. Sometimes it works like Bloomburrow Duskmourn. But Llorwyn felt very much like Classic Magic and TMNT does not.
The prerelease debacle did a lot of damage too. Took more time away from Llorwyn.

Not making a statement on the quality of the set, but it repeats a lot of things that people didn’t like about Spider-Man, modern day setting, multiple versions of the same character (Avatar got hit with that complaint too, but at least each version was a different colour identity.
