So, it turns out federal employees take their oath, their job & their duty to serve dead serious. Retirees (like me) understand the oath doesn’t expire just because you’ve left. This whole thread is giving me life, but especially this:

We’re learning just how many people have been pretending at the most basic human decency all along. They’ve hated feeling compelled to pretend. They so love the recent license to stop.

They can’t imagine anyone who isn’t also pretending. When they run into virtue, they call it “virtue signaling.”
