And after all of that, SB 6346 passes on a 51-46 vote!
And after all of that, SB 6346 passes on a 51-46 vote!
Republicans in Olympia have now spent more than 24 hours in a debate to try to protect people who make more than $1 million per year. It isnβt going well for them, or the staff that they have held hostage, or those of us who are paying close attention. A vote is near. #waleg
Representative Mena: "Our outdated tax structure no longer allows us to take care of one another."
Leaving no stone unturned.
Rep. Michael Keaton (Not the one who played Batman) offers a history lesson on why the Sonics left Seattle. How this applies to anything is not clear.
Excellent comments, @staterepjuliareed.bsky.social!
At least we know that these Republican lawmakers are taking this debate seriously with these amendment attempts.
Slam dunk comments from Rep. Street! (I couldnβt resistβ¦)
What happens when you run out of ideas for amendments to slow down the vote on the Millionaires Tax? How about requiring that the Sonics NBA team has to return to Washington before a Millionaires Tax can be put in place? Brilliantβ¦letβs spend more time on this. #waleg
While America watches a war cost $11,500/second...
37+ pages of Epstein documents referencing Trump are still being withheld from the public.
Day 10 and $10.5 billion spent.
1,676 civilians dead + 277 children
The clock is running.

Yeah, it makes no sense when I hear anyone who is not making more than $1 million per year saying that they are opposed to a tax on those folks. I guarantee that those rich folks donβt care a whit about the working people. Not even an afterthought.
It is only fitting that a lawmaker is now arguing about the Millionaires Tax in terms of the age-old joke about death and taxes. Iβm not saying her argument works, but it is fitting dad joke material.
And that amendment passes, thereby taking away the talking point from Republicans running for election this fall β in a logical world, that is.
Now Republicans are urging House members to vote against an amendment that would protect against the income tax being required of anyone who makes less than $1 million per year. Thatβ an interesting way to take away an election year talking point.
Now lawmakers are considering a crystal ball requirement that would require a 10-year look ahead on the Millionaires Tax, to require making decisions today based on BS predictions of what will happen in 10 years. There is no logic to this. None.
And another amendment to the Millionaires Tax fails. What a great use of time. #waleg
The Republicans know this well. They are counting on voters not being aware of this fact. Donβt fall for it!
BTW, Republicans in Olympia claiming that the passage of the Millionaires Tax now is not an emergency is a hollow ploy. Lawmakers are required to create a budget that balances over the next 4 years, so projecting revenue from this tax is necessary. #waleg
Natasha Hill: "We've been hearing for many hours, since yesterday in fact, about what this bill means to do: fully fund services & programs working people need"
She says that we need flexibility to respond to problems she sees both on her side of the state and the coast.
Kudos to lawmakers working through this marathon vote to pass a Millionaires Tax in Washington. Itβs pretty impressive how well so many are functioning despite the 16-hour-plus debate. There is a clear contrast between those inspiring hopes for a better Washington, and others. We see you. #waleg
Republicans in Olympia seem to believe that when funds go into the General Fund, they simply disappear. That clearly isnβt the case. Those funds are used to pay for critical services that people all across Washington rely on - especially low income households. #waleg
And that amendment fails as well.
Now Republicans in Olympia are trying to reduce the sales tax by 1.5% before the Millionaires Tax would even go into effect, thereby creating an even larger state budget deficit. These are not serious people. #waleg
And the bullion amendment fails.
#BullionShit
Who will protect the coin shows?
So many Republicans are self-owning themselves in this long, overnight debate to protect millionaires from the proposed Millionaires Tax. Now they are asking for a sales tax break for those who buy gold and silver? You know, like regular working people always do⦠#waleg

I love seeing morning bike traffic absolutely explode on the first warm days. People are ready to rely/spend less on transit and to drive less, too. Commuter Rail was especially bad this winter and with the paths snowed in I had to rely on it. I am going to check the paths this week π€
