FireRed/LeafGreen discourse is wild because people will act like you're the crazy one for thinking $20 is a greedy asking price for a GBA game when Nintendo themselves set the standard of GBA games on Virtual Console costing $8 a decade ago

People wouldn't pay to get ugly chrome NiGHTS, but they will pay for regular NiGHTS. The game's gotta make money somehow.
At least $9 for a NiGHTS skin, buddy, and skill isn't that terrible of a deal. If the MTX in this game were all more like that I'd have much less of an issue with them.
Kirby Air Riders key art.
#1: Kirby Air Riders - As a kid who played endless amounts of Air Ride as a kid, this game had a lot to live up to, and somehow it delivered on every front. Encountering Gigantes in City Trial for the first time is probably the funniest gaming moment of the year.
Pac-Man World 2 Re-PAC key art.
#2: Pac-Man World 2 RePAC - This first Re-PAC was alright, but here they somehow turned a mediocre game I was only mildly nostalgic for into one of my favorite 3D platformers ever. The boss battles in this are so GOOD dude. I can't believe I'm saying this but I desperately need a remake of World 3.
Donkey Kong Bananza key art.
#3: Donkey Kong Bananza - Of course Bananza is a fantastic 3D platformer, but I enjoyed what the game represents even more. The entire finale is a frenzied fanboy's fever dream. If you spent your childhood posting on Rareware message boards like I did, this one's for you.
Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds key art.
#4. Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds - I've played a lot of kart racers, but CrossWorlds might be my favorite. A great roster, amazing tracks, a really fun gadget system, frequent free updates, this game has got it all... except for (insert your favorite irrelevant Sega character here).
Fantasy Life i key art.
#5. Fantasy Life i - Usually a jack of all trades is a master of none, but the combination of BOTW/Runescape/Animal Crossing actually works really well. It's hard to get bored with any one element when there's always something else to do, especially when it's all as polished as this.
Tamagotchi Plaza key art.
#6. Tamagotchi Plaza - Admittedly this game is literal shovelware, but it's very cute shovelware that's perfect for a Tamagotchi superfan. I had fun slowly grinding away at it throughout the year, especially with the free updates adding new shops and other neat little things.
Warriors Abyss key art.
#7. Warriors Abyss - This game's various systems are weirdly obtuse for what is mechanically a very simple action roguelite, but once you get a grip on how everything works it hits like digital crack. If this had a 60 FPS Switch 2 edition it'd be even higher on the list.
Hollow Knight: Silksong key art.
#8. Hollow Knight: Silksong - I've tried and failed to get into Hollow Knight multiple times now so I was very surprised when Silksong proved to be a lot more up my alley thanks to Hornet's more nimble moveset. Probably the best Metroidvania I've ever played honestly.
Elden Ring Nightreign key art.
#9: Elden Ring Nightreign - Everyone and their grandmother seemed to be mocking the very idea of a multiplayer-only Souls game prerelease, but this game turned out great and honestly I would love to see Nightreign's roguelite structure and speedy movement further iterated on in future entries.
Shinobi: Art of Vengeance key art.
#10: Shinobi: Art of Vengeance - This is actually the flimsiest entry on this list because I only played like 3 levels... like I said, too many good games! BUT it was really fun and I'll definitely be getting back into it when the Sega Villains DLC drops.
The 2025 Top 10 GOTY list is finally here! This year had a crazy amount of good games, to the point where there were some contenders I barely touched (Absolum) or didn't even get around to buying (Dragon Quest 1+2). OH WELL! Onto the winners:

A plush of a ChuChu and a KapuKapu next to a copy of ChuChu Rocket for the Dreamcast.
I love ChuChu Rocket but it gets basically no merch and the only plushes they ever had were an ultra rare Japan-only set from 2000... until now! LRG finally did something right for once, so now at long last I have my most wanted plushes of all time. No cap...ukapu.

currently doing a replay of all the kingdom hearts games
every time i say re:chain of memories is mid someone goes "you don't understand, the card system is so deep and interesting, you simply haven't wrapped your mind around it bro" and then i play the game and every fight is just this
I hope you've learned a lesson from all this - maybe next time you'll do the right thing and spend an hour fiddling with the content aware fill tool for a throwaway promotional image, instead of using a faster AI tool in the exact same software that gives functionally the same result.
"one man's trash is another man's treasure so you can't criticize anything in a review of a video game i liked"
absolutely riveting critique. 9 months well spent

130 hours in Hyrule Warriors DE... SO FAR...
Mario Kart World is great and all but improved performance on Switch 1 games has been the true selling point of Switch 2 for me so far. Hyrule Warriors is one of my favorite games of all time and getting to play it at 1080p 60 FPS in handheld mode makes it feel brand new.

Sega: OK guys we're doing a Sonic 3 tie-in for Sonic Rumble and we need some music for the Shadow boss fight. Nothing too crazy, it's just a mobile game after all
Sega Sound Team: You got it fam

Apparently it's Bandcamp Friday, where artists get 100% of the money from sales instead of some other percentage - so if you'd like to support my music, today is a pretty good day to do it!
